Mountain Curs

Anyone have any experience hunting with Mountain Curs? Dad had one when I was a little kid. He (the dog, not dad) treed the first squirrel I ever killed. Looking at a few now, wanting to get back into squirrel hunting with a dog. If you've never done it, it is a load of fun!

    I believe this is the first time I recall being called a mountian cur! Been called worse though, so I don't think I mind. Never hunted squirrles with a dog. Seems like it would kind of interfere with naping under a tree while waiting for the squirrels to forget you are there. What does the dog do?

    don't guess i would know a mountain curr if he bit me. when i was a kid,(sun was about the size of a baseball and their was no moon yet)
    we had a rat terrior that would tree squirrels was loads of fun.

    Mtn curs can make excellent, and extremely tough coon hounds.

    i am sorry, in true houndman talk i should have said, the dog PUT the squirrel up a tree

    Some of them do make excellent coon dogs. And some people do use terriers as squirrel dogs. Curs just have treeing in their blood, so to speak, and that is their main use today. Think I have a lead on a couple of good pups. If they work out, should be ready to hunt a little next fall when squirrel season comes in here.

    BTW...in the book "Ol' Yeller", the dog was a mountain cur. Hollywood turned him into a yellow lab. [:(]

    Hey mountain curs are great squirell dogs and mountain feists as well i had a female mt feist for 15 yrs best d... dog i ever had lots of energy and go all day she would tree squirells and we would shoot em out! really miss the ol girl,now i have two female jack russell/beagle mix pups 10 mnths old and one is a very promising hunter my wife has ruined the other {lap dog} mt feists are somewhat smaller in size than cur but all the same drive,great rat or mouse dog to[:D]
