What does it matter?
If multiple threads are talking about similar or same subjects, what is the harm? I mean it is not against the posting guidelines and it does not malign anyone so who does it hurt? just a question because I was wondering. Don

I was wondering about that one myself. I was home sick yesterday and had nothing to do but keep my post near the top to keep people responding. My original post was locked and another persons post with fewer responses was left unlocked. It was kind of silly because some of the information had to be copies and repasted on the "selected" post.

I've been thinking the same thing. Always before if something was over posted people would just bring it to attention, but it's working so much better now since we've got a mother.

If a person starts a thread on a particular topic it's a little impolite to start a duplicate rather than join the discussion on the existing one. If you have multiple threads going then people find themselves trying to remember which one they were reading and which they posted a reply on and in general it gets confusing. Then we start getting complaints from people asking why we allow so many threads on the same topic. But then, we also get complaints when we try to limit the number of threads on the same topic. Can't win.
So how many threads on one topic do you want? Why does it matter? Read, post and be happy and quit complaining. Why do some of you have to get upset over NOTHING???!!! Get on with your lives, will ya?
BTW- NOTHING was "poofed." All threads are still up but the duplicates are locked with a polite request to direct further attention to the preexisting threads on that topic. It's only polite.0 -
I'm just confused, I'm not sure if I have responded to something before and it's disappeared or it was just a bad piece of fish I had causing hallucinations. If it is the later I'm very disappointed in the lack of vivid colors as described by fellow hallucinators. 0 -
multiple threads discussing the same topic(not a slight variation but the same topic) with the same people saying the same thing wastes server space. it also clogs the front page of topics. it also proves that nobody pays attention. 0 -
I forgot to add that the owner prefers the forum page to look clean when visitors check it out and it looks sort of bad with a bunch of threads on the same subject.
Again, what's the big deal if we stick to the the original thread on a subject? Why is this cause for concern?0 -

I have observed that there is a level of animosity among certain members...and they will respond to some posters, and not others.
Discussions also hardly follow the same paths, oftentimes, when there are multiple threads on the same subject.
The business about 'keeping track of which' is dang sure legitimate, tho...0 -
In a room full of people at a party, don't you imagine that some of the same topics come up in different groups of people around the room.
If I don't particulary get along with so-and-so, does that mean I have to go and sit with them to talk about the same thing as them? I don't think so.0 -

This is true. I have also noticed that sometimes post to a thread after I have posted fall off to nothing. Due to my knowledge, skill, and experience, it is intimidating and unfair to mere mortals to expect them to be able to add anything worthwhile. However on a thread where I haven't posted, they are free to write the most assinine and absurd recommendations and comments thinking no one will notice the obvious moronic slant. To provide a venue for the village idiots and be politically correct for the logically challanged, you might want to reconsider removing duplicate threads.[8D][:I]0 -

Comprehension will be the downfall of all people. It was not a complaint but a question. You, Saxon, are the only one who feels the need to lock multiple threads. That is the reason I asked the question. As I said, it does not violate any posting guidelines so why does it matter? Don0 -

Don- Same question; why does it matter? Why worry about locking duplicate threads? It's such a meaningless thing to wonder about. Nobody is being denied their ability to post on the topic, it's just more polite to keep the discussion on the original thread.
You're right, I lock them so people can still read what was posted and then continue on the original threads. ADMN deletes them. Is that preferable?0 -
