sad day in the shooting world in hampton va.
though im a little late to find out because of being in conn to care for my parents, NAS OCEANA has closed its skeet trap field. imagine my surprise when i pulled up to locked gates. it been around since 1960 and now its abandoned. picture 6 skeet fields, 6 trap, 1 5-stand, a wobble trap field, all with a new log cabin clubhouse, closed. from what im gathering...the management ran it into the ground, the base cdr got tired of the noise complaints from urban sprawl, and he didnt like civilians coming on base with guns. civilians and retired were the main income from its existance. so, with the stroke of a pen....47 years of shooting and the home field for the navy skeet team is gone. sad day indeed.[:(]

Very sad when any range closes. One less place for us to have some fun. I live near a sporting clays range. I don't shoot sporting clays. They are overpriced on a round (IMHO). No place for rifles.
There is a small, like a log loading clearing, where you can shoot handguns and .22's. The problems I have with it, there is not a backdrop, your rounds go into the woods, no target stands, not level, and they DON'T CARE.0 -
This is a core front in the assault on gun owners and gun ownership. The anti's have decided to put pressure on shooting ranges and try to force them out of business. You will find that in many communities the local or state bylaws now include little lines about how shooting is ONLY permissible, when not in the act of hunting during an open hunting season, on NRA certified shooting ranges. So if those NRA shooting ranges are forced out of business, you will find yourself committing a crime if you go out in the woods to target shoot. Where I live, here in The People's Republic of Massachusetts, it is illegal to discharge a firearm where mammals "may" be found, if you are not in the act of legally hunting during an open hunting season.
These are evidence of the incremental loss of our freedoms and liberties that will end up resulting in our loss of our 2nd amendment freedoms.
Any local shooting range needs patronage, and we all need to become members and attend our shooting ranges on a regular schedule or we will be losing them 1 at a time.0
