Bipods
I'm in the market for a Bipod. The only one I know and have experience with is the Harris bipods. What are some other good ones.
This would be for hunting, plinking, etc.

I have seen people tie a piece of p-cord between the legs of of the bipod.

Well like the title says I am looking for a bipod or mount. I am going to use this mainly on my M1A, but I may use it on another rifle or two down the road. I have several Harris Model L's right now. I need either a good way to mount one of the Harris bipods on a rail or a decent/good rail mount bipod that will not break the bank. Any suggestions?

Well now that I went and did this I am sure there is some reason this is not a good idea.
I got my Versa-pod rail today and found like others I do not like the swiveling sling mount. Not only did I dislike the swivel the loop seemed large and "misshaped". Well my brain and my Dremel got the best of me [:p]
I removed the swivel which I found was held in by a small E-clip. I then took out the Dremel and a cutting wheel and cut off the section where the E-clip as it was too long with it on there.
I first tried to just place the stock sling mount under the Versa and running the screws through. This did work, but left a large gap between stock and rail. It also looked quite funny as the rail is "flat" and the stock is at an angle. With the Dremel, a file, and a bit of time I took ~0.070" (size of the standard plate) off the base of the Versa and added a slight angle to it.
The next problem I ran into is that the holes in the stock plate and the Versa did not line up. A few seconds with the Dremel fixed that.
Here it is all cut and put on. It is hard to see in the pic but the front of the rail does not contact the stock, it is just close.
Here is another wider shot.
I need to do just a little more touch up work on this and then I am going to refinish it. I think I may "glue" the stock plate to the Versa plate so it looks like a single piece when it is finished.

What's a good bipod? I can't find a decent review or comparison of various bipods anywhere. What do you guys use and why? 0 -

Hm. I can't find anything else but Caldwell and GG&G, but those are expensive. I guess Harris it is... 0 -
Actually I do have one of the outers which are a clone of the Harris.
They are about half the price also but you can tell a difference in quality when they are side by side.
The outers is a chinese copy of Harris.

They might be closer to 2/3 the price but if I was going to buy a bipod it would be a Harris.
The only reason I have this outers is it came on a rifle I bought.
Although it looked exactly like a Harris When I took it off the rifle I could tell it was not a Harris by its feel before I even looked for the maker.0 -

Harris that extends (for various position) and swivels (for uneven grounds). Mine extends from prone to sitting position. 0 -

I use one on occasion but I'm not a fan of the Harris type bypod. They have too much "bounce" in them upon recoil. I think it is because of the legs being spring loaded. 0 -

I have 1- 9"-13"
and 1- 13"-27" both swivel for uneven ground
the shooters ridge bidpods are harris clone's. The quailty of the materials used is not even comparable to the harris.0 -
I like Harris, but also just bought a couple of el-cheapo fixed length, Picatinny mount bipods from Cheaper-than Dirt that, frankly, I like a lot. The Cheaper-than-Dirt part number is Bipod-109. It weighs less than a third of what a Harris and adaptor weights and also swivels to allow for an uneven surface. It also costs less than $ 30.00.
