    Sarge,
We were raised the same way; I wouldn't be the man I am today without a good a$$ whooping when I needed it. I tried to raise my boys the same way. They are 35 and 37, have a rock solid worth ethic and still say "sir" to their elders.
My wife has been in education for 26 years now and is an administrator. She comes home pi$$ed on a regular basis because so many parents won't accept responsibility for their spoiled rotten brats.
My dad died in 1983 and every Fathers Day I say a prayer and light a candle in honor of his memory. I didn't say "thank you" before he died. I wish I could turn back the clock.

    Dude,

Don't worry about it - I'm sure your dad knows how grateful you are.

I was raised the same way.
The other day I stopped and changed a flat tire for some elderly women.
One of them tried to pay me and I told her my Mom would have my hide if I took her money. She said thank you.
I said don't thank me thank my mom. She asked for the number and I gave it to her.
She actually called mom and thanked her. Made Mom's day.
    Mom is 74 I'm 54.
Parenting last forever. Good and bad.

+1, Sarge. In the past I was called a dictator by my children. However, they were "raised in the 50s" like I was. They have turned out to be respectful, law abiding, productive citizens. I believe in "parenting" and teaching the "old values."

Too many younger parents today do not teach their children. Simply walk in any public business and watch the younger children. Most would have been "taken to the car" and "talked to" when I was young.
