SOUR MASH vs STRAIGHT BURBON....
Who prefers what?
I have drank both, and until i hit the early 30's, didn't care too much what method. Now, after a good "cooling-off" period. I have decided, "SOUR" is what it says...
The "good stuff" is "STRAIGHT" Burbon..... Jim Beam, Glenmore,Rebel Yell, Makers Mark.... What say yee? Ole Burbon drinkers???

Single barrel JD is not single-malt. It's blended before it reaches the barrel.
The top-shelf bourbons (single malt) taste "better". Maybe its in my head. Dunno. But....the more blending put into a liquid for consumption, the greater chance of getting cheap grain alcohol fillers. The old [19th Century] Kentucky Gentlemen made their own batches on the plantations. And were very protective/proud of their product.
The absolute top name bourbons (read: unknown to the general public) are descendants of these proprietary plantation whiskeys. Gotta dig into your pocket for the pleasure of tasting it, though.
Good time to enquire about the good stuff. The proprietary whiskeys are released in small batches for nationwide sales during the holiday season. Now's the time to jump on it. Best, Joe0 -

My understanding is that "bourbon" is from a particular region of Kentucky and must be a certain percentage of corn. All straight bourbon has sourmash added as a "starter", much like sourdough for bread/biscuits. Tennessee whiskey is classed as sourmash and is generally mellowed by dripping/filtering through various types of charcoal for.
At least that is my understanding and I like most of it, with the exception of Rebel Yell.[;)][^]0 -

Being an old sea dog, I know someting about drinking. I say with pride I have been drunk in all four corners of the earth ! I have personal exotic far away favorites like "MOJO" and "BullFrog", but my domestic favorites have to be Crown Royal, Seagrams, CLC. They are much easier on the palate. If you like a bit of bite, try "Cognac". Hennesey is a very good brand!

Love sourmash, don't like bourbon.
Jim Beam, wild turkey, knob creek, et al, really taste bad to me.
I'll stick with tennessee blendeds.

Scots Whiskey is made from peat and old gym socks. Bourbon can be made only in Bourbon County, Kan-tuck-ee. I can drink good bourbon, but prefer Tennessee Whiskey. JD Black, JD Single barrel, and my favorite, George Dickle 12 year old. Mostly I drink rum. 0 -
i am personally a Jack Daniels Fan but i will drink straight bourbon no prob. 0 -
Whiskey and Bourban are different. One (can't recall now) has to have at least 51% corn and the other doesn't. That is basicaly the difference. Crown Royal is a Canadian Whiskey and is a BLEND.
Scotch is made IN SCOTLAND and in one of the few islands as well as as different altitudes, which makes it's chracter from one brand to another, so unique.
Sour Mash if I were to guess, has more to do with the state of the corn, or amount, but it is still a WHISKEY.
The original vodka was from potatoes in POLAND, not russia.
Rum is made from sugar cane. Dark is from molasses made from the cane.
Gin is made from the Juniper plant.0 -
My dad told me to never turn down a drink that another man offers you. Even if it's bad, you should take a taste. The next time, he may have some good stuff, and not offer you any.
Following that advice, I prefer O.P. whiskey.
