Received this message this morning from my Congressman. As I expected, he does not support gun control. Thought some of you might like to see it.
Dear Mr. Sartin:
Thank you for contacting my office to express your opposition to
H.R. 1022, The Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement
Protection Act of 2007. I appreciate hearing your thoughts.
As you know, H.R. 1022 would reinstate the assault weapons ban.
Most recently, H.R. 1022 was referred to the House Committee on
the Judiciary. While I do not serve on this Committee, I can assure
you that I would not support this legislation should it be considered on the floor of the House of Representatives.
I believe it is critical to ensure the federal government does not
pass laws that infringe on a citizen's right to keep and bear arms,
and I will continue to work to uphold the Second Amendment.
Eligible law-abiding citizens should have the right to purchase and
own firearms. With more than 20,000 local, state and federal gun
laws on the books, it is clear that more gun control laws are not the answer to stopping gun crimes. Rather than restricting gun
ownership, I believe the best means of reducing crimes committed
with firearms is to enforce existing laws against these crimes and
fully prosecute those who use guns to commit crimes.

We even have a few on the state level in Illinois:

...I send an em once or more a week to both my DC senators. Cornyn has yet to reply but he will, he actually answers me in a real letter delivered by the PO, with his real sig! No freakin form letter like his counter part Kay Baily Hutchison...she always answers, or her staff does, w/a form letter.
Cornyn has come to actually recognize my em's, should with the thousand Ive sent him, as he actually refers to other em's Ive sent to him. He is 100% against the new AWB.
...I call and em the White House regularly too and always ask to speak to the president, knowing I cant, do it anyway then give them my opinion on the AWB and the illegals.
Too many lazy gun owners that wont take 5 min to em their reps, and they will all whine when this stupid law gets passed! Suggestion! Get your lazy azz in gear and take the time to em your reps, it aint hard!...[;)]

I also heard back from my Congressman Steve King. He is on the judiciary committee for this bill. His reply was more less generic, but I know he's pro 2nd Amendment and will do his best to probably stall it in committee. 0 -
