For a dang fuel pump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was figureing it to be about $40!

Lucky I found a person to do the job for a reduce labor rate! But It still is going to run well over $200 total to get it done![:(][:(][:(]

I guess my Garand is going to have to wait a little longer![:(][:(][:(][:(][:(][:(]

    that has to be an external fuel pump. most shops charge $60.00 per hour and up

    The pump is in the gas tank.

    I would probly do it myself except that I just filled my gas tank when the pump went out!

    That alone will make it a much more difficult job of dropping the fuel tank out.

    Cheap.

    I had to replace my fuel pump a year or so ago, and the cost of the part was nearly $200, plus another $70 or so for the wiring harness that was also bad. Labor wasn't bad, but the parts price was a killer. Fortunately, fuel pumps do tend to last a long time.

    Oh yeah. Mine quit on me on Saturday evening, after everything and everyone was closed, in a seedy part of Arlington, 80 miles from home. I couldn't buy a fuel pump anywhere. I couldn't pay a mechanic to fix it because they couldn't buy a fuel pump either. I wasn't about to leave my truck sitting where it was until Monday morning. It might have been all right, but you never know. Cost me another $250 for a flatbed wrecker to bring the truck home.

    You know, these two fuel pumps failing at the same time... what are the chances?

    I'm thinking that this is all Bush's fault. Dick Cheney needs more oil and wants more troops in Iraq. So, I bet he got Karl Rove to go around and sabotage fuel pumps of various Americans all at the same time. This would cause thousands... no, millions of gallons of gas to be thrown out, thus driving up the price of oil.

    Parts on these new vehicles are crazy. Tenant replaced a water pump on a 2 yr old 1/2 ton chevy and it was $150 for the pump. He did the labor. I just replaced the waterpump on my 74' Vette and it was $30 bucks with the permatex and gasket. Simple job.

    My nieghbor came with his P/U and we hooked up a rope and pulled it right into my driveway.

    I had been up in Charlotte earlier in the day running some erands and it could have gone out up there being about 30 miles from home!

    I normally do not get that lucky![:D]

    I learned that $150 tow bill on the interstate with my old truck. Now I have AAA and have free towing for 100 miles. With the discounts AAA gives it actually does not cost anything to have.

    AAA works, SOMETIMES, and only in urban areas. From what I have seen of their response and coverage around here, I would never pay the dues.

    AAA Premium is $107 bucks a year for two vehicles. Free towing 100 miles, free tire changes, free gas if you run out. Free lockout.. I think it is up to 5 calls a year. Plus discounts on motels, glasses ( I just did the premium on savings on my new glasses ) restaurants. I just renewed in case the wife has a flat, or would breakdown on the highway. I come pick her up and they take the car to the garage. One large tow bill got me to join. However if you get the el cheapo AAA plan they only tow 3.. that is 3 miles free. Then the hookboys get you for the rest.

    I have AAA also. But I have allways been told that it is towed to the closest AAA aproved repair shop up to 100 miles!

    I will use in in a pinch situation, but this happening right near the house put it to wear I just handled it myself.

    You have em' tow it where you want not where they want to take it. AAA uses business's with wreckers on call AAA has approved. If I am up in Greenville and I break down just tow the vehicle home or to a local garage. Anything over 100 miles is out of pocket.

    Rather than have my wife wait three hours for AAA to get to her, rather than have her wait helpless on the side of the road, fair game for any passing predator, I showed her how to change a flat tire.

    In this area many/most tow services will not accept AAA. The complaint is slow payback. If they do accept AAA they usually charge an extra 25% for the trouble.

    Thats cheap for an intank fuel pump and labor. Dealers are at about 80.00 an hour and private shops range about 55.00 up and to drain R&R the tank and pump is about an 2 hr job and maybe more if rusted fittings/bolts etc. Fuel pumps cost starting at about 100.00 and go up from there. You got off cheap for sure

    150 is cheap, I had put one in a f150 before and those in the tank bastids are hard to get at. plus it was a dealer only part cost 300


    like i said id like to kick the bastid that decided they worked better in the tank in the NUCKING FUTS. not only do they cost 5 times as much they are a b!tch to change.

    I don't know how your states do it but around here each towing co. has dibs on certain areas.. All can be reached in minutes for towing. Most all are AAA certified. Or your AAA rep will set up the tow and call you back.

    I've saved more money using their discounts on hotels, restaurants, car rentals, theme park tickets, etc. to more than pay for the yearly cost. Around here they avg. 1 hour response time.

    Just changed mine last week. Cost me 75 bucks. Had to pull the bed to get to it though. Wasn't all that bad, I guess.
