Dam snakes!!
My neighbor asked me to feed her quail today since she was working. I didn't get by until she had gotten home but went on down to feed them. I noticed a dead bird and that seemed strange. As I started to reach for it, I saw this big black snake in the corner of the cage. It has pushed the spring loaded door open and come in. It had already eaten one as evidenced by the very large lump in its body.
I usually let snakes go their on way but I made the mistake of calling her out to see what had happened. Had she had her way, she would have blasted snake, quail, pen to pulp with shotgun.
I drug snake out and chopped off head but she now refuses to even go feed her chickens. I hope she gets over it before chickens starve to death!!
I personally don't mind snakes and go out of my way to let them live but this one got in wrong cage at wrong time and sort of committed suicide(sp) by being exposed to Portia. She wanted to see its dead body come hell or high water. Tom
PS I don't think there was any way the snake could have ever gotten out of the cage, the spring loaded gate would be against it. It had to have been found in next day or so. Its fate was sealed when it got in. T

I'll leave a snake alone, as long as it don't scare the poop out of me, i.e walking up on one, one falling out of a tree into your boat, if it is a poisonous one, you get the picture. But my dad always said the only snake is a dead snake. 0
