    We have moved to an all mail election in order to boost voter turn out and to save money. I find it distasteful, and think we are missing something very American when we close the polling booths. The first Tuesday after the First Monday of every November always demanded a little more of us as citizens than did any other day of the year. It has now been lost, most likely never to return.

    Had the polls been open, I would have gone. Alas, I did not vote this year, both out of protest for the removal of this tradition and frankly because there was nothing of significance on the ballot.
