Its kind of sad, that we all age sooner or later! It is a shock to see someone in a movie and have an image of that person in your minds eye and then years later see that person in the flesh without makeup.[:0]

    Being a little fair here...

Some of these "before" pictures are literally a decade old. People age.

Second of all, these "before" pictures are all staged. The "after" pictures are the few opportunities the paparrazi get and they wouldn't be flattering no matter how they were taken.

Third of all, some of these "after" pictures aren't bad. Halle Barry, Julia Roberts, and Charlize Theron aren't what I would classify as ugly in the pictures, they just look more average than not.

Not to mention the lighting in the studio using a camera worth ten grand compared to natural day light in every before picture, most likely using a more average camera. Really not surprising.

That's why I decline to attend High School reunions. I recall a few of the girls that were real knockouts, and I prefer to have those memories remain intact.

I didn't see much difference between halle Berry's "before" and "after" pics. I'd stil hit it like a gypsy hit a tambourine.

    Agreed.

Its kind of nice to see this images from time to time to remind yourself that even the super elevated celebrities are still human (and how much they are primped to appear in front of the camera), but in the end this is a comparison of the best vs. the worst.

You're comparing a picture of someone at their prime, in full professional makeup, that has been selected (in some cases out of dozens of pictures) to make them look as good as possible, with a picture of them waking up first thing in the morning, with no makeup, bad hair, bad angle, bad lighting, etc.

In some of the cases (Cher, Michael Jackson, Hawn) there have plastic surgeries in between the pictures. In these and other cases, there are ten years (or more) between the pictures. Nobody is going to look as good at 40 as they did at 25.

You can take a picture of *anybody* and make them look bad, if that's what you are trying to do.

Likewise, with enough artifice, you can make almost anyone look decent.

Personally I don't think Tom Cruise is more interesting in one photo than the other. Same with Penelope Cuze, she is just hard for me to look at.

    He Dog:

About Penelope....did you word your comment wrong?? [:D] (Cuz I get hard lookin' at her). [:p][}:)]

I'm interested in what she CAN look like whether she looks that way all the time or not.

wow, they do get knocked down a few pegs with no makeup on. That's why I've always liked women that didn't need make-up. My wife included!!!

They are taking those pictures at the worst possible moments. Several look as if the star were crying. Anyone women doesn't exactly look great when she is crying. Most of them that don't look like they are crying look as if they just woke up.
