Why do I need to give credit card number?
I considered buying one of the Steyr pistols for sale on this website's auction area.
But stopped when I noted that this site wants my credit card number....even though the seller will only accept a Money Order or Cashier's Check.
Why do I need the card number to register for the auction portion of this website, to buy from someone else who won't accept it?

...uh, because it's the rule. You are worried about the biggest gun auction site on the net having your CC number, yet you intend on buying a gun "sight unseen" over the net(?); maybe you should not consider buying off the net if your that nervous. Your CC number verifies you are who you say you are...to a degree.
...There is always one of the "other" sites...one allows the FB to be shown ONLY if the buyer or seller "allows" it to be seen, and few will "allow" it to be seen; your on your own there to check out the seller/buyer. THAT, begs the question "why" the buyer/seller does not "allow" their feedback to be seen.

And I seem to remember now that it asked me that when I entered my only email address thru Yahoo...and don't use onboard computer email. That may be be why. Makes me easier to find, if I turned out to be a bozo.
I'm not excite about buying a used(hard to find) gun thru a website, but the loss of $500 for a crappy trashed pistol would be nothing compared to the loss of my identity on a credit card worth many thousands of dollars/and my excellent credit rating. I guess I am missing something here. When I registered with GB, I submitted my CC number because I had some guns and ammo to sell and knew the fees and charges would be charged to that. Makes sense.
But if I read the OP correctly they are saying that he needed to give a CC number if he wanted to buy an item. Valid question. CC will not verify age, or credit stability. Maybe one of the moderators could step in and clear this up?0 -
John - as a buy-only account, I've never entered a CC number with Gunbroker.
However, I could not use the Buy It Now feature until I had 2 feedbacks, or left CC info...
So in short - if you are buying only, and don't want to use Buy It Now for your first couple of purchases, you don't need a credit card number on file.
Want to sell? Need a cc. Want to BiN with less than 2 feedbacks under your belt? Need a cc. Otherwise no CC needed.0 -
