21 GUN SALUTE

A question for you people in the Military.

I know that the 21 gun salute represents 1776 (numbers added together)

But tonight on the Discovery channel, the Marines were saluting a fallen comrade with AR-15's. After every round fired they had to recharge the bolt. Why?

  All semi auto guns need to be recocked when shooting blanks. That is unless they are using a Blank Firing Adapter (BFA). They have to do it with M14's and Grands too.

  blanks do not generate enough presuure to cycle the gas system, unless they put some dohicky on the barrel to help keep the gases in the barrel long enough to charge the gas system.
