Portable GPS for auto
I'm looking for some insight on a portable GPS for our vehicles.There are dozens of manufactures and a wide range of prices.I seldom drive someplace that I need help to find,i"m thinking more like vacations etc.I know in most cases you get what you pay for but I really don't need a 600-1000$ model.There are quite a few sales this week,Garmin street pilot 200$ a TomTom #1 for 119.00 Garmin Nuvi 350 for 300$.The store employes always try to sell you the top of the line.If anyone has experience with the less expensive models and Pro's and Con's I would appreciate some advice. thanks Dave

i use a tom tom 1 and i am VERY infrequently dissapointed in it. every now and again it will send we around the block for no reason, but other than that i love it. 0 -

the 330 is a good machine but is outdated but will take care of most of us that just use it for pleasure. My son that does the storm damage cleanup has to use one because when they go in most street signs or markers are down and the Emergency officals are mostly from out of town and no help in a disaster for directions. Some very good buy out there now just do your homework. 0 -

Couple of years ago, I was looking to buy one for auto. Wanted all the bells and whistles. (speach recognition, etc) Could not justify price. Then I foung the Delonme Earthmate GPS and mapping software that hooks up to my laptop. I love it. 15.4 inch screen and I can ask it questions like "are we there yet?" and get answers like "24.5 miles to go, ETA 4:15 p.m." Saw latest version on sale a couple weeks ago for $59.99. 0 -
I have the Garmin GPS Map 60CSx (handheld) love it, no issues, never leave home without it. I have City-Nav for the street and Topo for hiking and hunting. 0 -

No usage fee, but I do update my map database every other year, and it costs around $100 to do so. I us only Garmin units because of the customer support and the service. The continue to support older units and they will repair (quickly and without cost) any unit that has a probelm while under warrenty. That is usually a given, but it doesn't seem as though the other makers have caught on!0 -
We just got Garmin 200W "Nuvi" installed in almost all of our ambulances last month. I liked them so well, I went out and bought one for myself. I prefer the "W" models....they're WIDESCREEN. I've seen them on sale this weekend for about $250. 0 -
