Iam sure Tina Canterbury would say they are such loving dogs, they are given a bad rap... but she is dead now.

Loving dogs, yeh right....... right up to the day they decide to kill you.

This is happening with more frequency these days.... family pet pit bulls, raised from puppies one day decide your the enemy and must be killed.

They should confiscate all pit bulls... release them to the wild to fend for themselves. Then we could hunt them as dangerous game much like wild pigs.

While the home was being built and afterwards it was pretty much open season on them in the woods. Oh well, not too many around now but I still carry a firearm ANY time I am outside.

What is so "retarded" about it? Something you don't want to hear? Facts are facts. This breed is dangerous, plain and simple.

Its beating a dead horse, somebody brings this point up every week thinking that they are the savior of all mankind. Condemning a certain breed of dog every week online demanding their extinction. I just think its funny how you think you are making a difference in the world by trying to argue them as dangerous on a gun forum. If you truly believe that it is your calling in life to see this dog outlawed I just think you should put your efforts somewhere it might actually make a difference. Atleast that way I can laugh at you when you are on the news.

I have a Zambezi River crocodile I raised and lovingly nurtured as a pet from a little egg. Saw it hatch. Just love that animal. Never harms a soul. Snuggles up to me. Good around kids.

All you retards out there jumping all over Zambezi River crocodiles are just plain ignorant. It's how they are raised that makes them dangerous. Not what breed they are. Best, Joe

Using sarcasm to compare an undomesticated animal to one that has been domesticated for thousands of years makes complete sense......[:D]

Did you not learn yet not to expect certain type of people to have common sense? They are driven by hysteria and emotion not knowledge, so let'em, the smarter ones will learn sooner or later, the other ones will sort themselves out of gene pool sooner or later, it's the way of evolution, can't cheat it.

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. -- A 42-year-old woman was fatally mauled by her two pit bulls, which also attacked the victim's son and a sheriff's deputy before both dogs were shot and killed on Tuesday morning, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

Tina Marie Canterbury was dead by 8:15 a.m. when Clay deputies arrived at the scene in the 2400 block of Cosmos Avenue, off county Road 218 West.

"She was a wonderful, wonderful person to be around -- always smiling and always happy. It brightened up the room when she walked in," said Billie Cantebury, the victim's cousin.

The victim's 21-year-old son, Cody Canterbury, was also attacked by one of the dogs -- bitten in the throat -- but was not severely injured.

"We have two full-blooded red-nosed pits and they just attacked our mom," a second son is heard saying on one of the 911 calls. "We can't get to my mom and my brother just went out there and they attacked him too. They don't need to get out of the ambulance or the dogs will try to get them, too."

The dogs could be heard in the background of one of the 911 calls.

"As soon as I heard it, I stood up and made sure the primary dispatcher had dispatched the call because you could tell the urgency of it," said Director of Communication Diane Pickering, who took the call. "It's attention to detail. It's what the dispatchers do everyday. We hear everything, we don't get to see everything."

A family friend at the home at the time shot at the dogs with a 9mm handgun, but the dogs were still alive and one of them lunged at an arriving deputy before it was shot and killed.
The other dog got loose. The sheriff's office issued a dangerous dog alert while Clay County animal control officers and sheriff's deputies tracked down and the second dog. It was found in a wooded area about two hours later, shot and killed.

"It is a tragic and horrific situation that brings to light the danger of these type of animals," Clay County Sheriff Rick Beseler said. "These dogs had never bitten a human before, but they did today -- they did turn on their owner."

Authorities said they did not know what circumstances caused the dogs to attack Canterbury.

"This was a responsible owner. These animals never had any history of any type of aggression," said Animal Crimes Detective Annie Henderson.

Billie Cantebury said the dogs were his cousin's companions when her husband was away on business. The victim's husband, who was out of town on business at the time, is returning home to be with his family.

"They were house pets, and they literally slept with her when he wasn't home. She would take them out and put them in their pin and walk them and stuff," he said.

The dogs were two years old and had been raised since puppies by Cantebury.

Beseler said the dogs were behind a fence that had a beware-of-dogs sign and the county had never had an animal complaint at the home.

    Lets see here.

Your Mother just got mauled by two pit bulls. And you are telling 911, they are no need for the Ambulance crew to get out of the ambulance?

    OK[^] Works for me..

If you want to know the truth he is sleeping about ten feet away from me right now. So yes I have been around Pits before. My main complaint is how people on this site have this crusade against a breed of dog.

There's no such thing as "pit bull" breed.

Well, I for one appreciate this information about Pit Bulls. Because of the info my eyes have been opened. I now believe there are only three kinds of Pit Bulls. #1 kind: Pitbulls who have killed their owners (or someone nearby). #2 kind: Pitbulls who will kill their owners (or someone nearby). #3 kind: Pitbulls who are thinking about killing their owners (or someone nearby).

Heck, and I was gonna buy a couple of those cute little Pit Bull puppies for my young grandson.

In 37 years, 342 children were killed by dogs, an average of about nine children a year. Shockingly, approximately three children are killed each day, or 1,100 per year, by their parents. Delise notes that "A child in the United States is over 100 times more likely to be killed by his or her parent or caretaker than by a dog."

Even more surprising is that approximately 50 infants die each year from broken baby cribs, and 250 newborns die at the hands of their parents or guardians. In comparison, two infants, on average, die a year from dog attacks.
