ak owners or those knowledgable
I have wanted to get a 75 round drum for my ak. However I have not been able to bring myself to pay the 85+ dollars for one. The other day my catalog came and these things jumped up way over 100 dollars. so my question is there is a 75 round bannana clip for the ak that is a lot cheaper, my 40 rounders that i got from the same place work flawlessly. anyone have any thoughts or experience with 75 round bannana clips?

The good thing about AK drums if you want to carry that load around, is you can store a loaded mag indefinitely with the spring unwound. It just takes a couple of turns of the key to be ready to go.
Long stick mags wont let you fire from the prone. Get a few 20 rd mags. They're a lot handier than the 30s and 40s.0 -
I got one once from cheaperthandirt.com Also bought a couple thousand rounds of some commie surplus. Needless to say, had all kind of problems. After I sent the 75rnder back found out it was the ammo causing the problems. Don't have enough info, just a bad experience.
Stick with mags 40 or smaller. drums for anything bigger.0 -

I just bought a 100 round BETA-C mag for my AR-15 just in case the Dems take office. The only drawback I've noticed is when it's fully loaded it gives the little AR a feeling like a cinder block is attached to it. [:D] 0 -

That's why I stick with lots of 30rd mags, the weight of a 75rd drum on my AK is just too much. I suppose if you fired it prone, especially from a bipod it'd be fine, but I have fired a buddies AK with the drum , and it was heavy enough to be uncomfortable.0 -

One of the big reasons most mags are only in the 30-40rd range is how well they work. Much longer then that and you start having issues.
As for the 75rd drums I dont like them. I had one for my AK years ago and when I sold it for $35 (more then I paid for it) I was happy. They are very heavy and transfers the weight funny. The bigger problem for me is that it hit my forearm and was no fun to shoot. I would not spend $25 on one again let alone $100, but that is just me.
I do have 2 of the .223 beta mags and use them in many of my guns (AR, Galil, Sig) and I do like them for the most part. They do add quite a bit of weight to the gun but it is held high as to not off balance the gun. As soon as there is a Glock tower I am going to get a 9mm one for my 9mm AR.0 -

I like that 90 degree drum, very cool. Never seen one in real life.
Keep in mind that the drums are primarily for squad weapons like the RPK. No regular trooper carries that obnoxious thing around. However, laying down sustained fire is the job of the LMG gunner.
