Uhhhh.......I wouldn't go showing that off. The USA government takes a dim view on bringing in stolen national treasures from other countries. VERY hot issue right now.

First, an artifact is not necessarily old. People think artifacts are old because the term is usually applied to old things but the word actually means anything affected by Man. So anything made by Man, touched by Man, etc etc is an artifact. Your computer is an artifact.

Second, if that thing is not a repro, you had better be able to prove it was in the country prior to 1987 otherwise you are in violation of federal law by even having it.

SP...do you need to get a $200 tax stamp in order to posess it legally?

If it is not a repro and it didn't come from another country, does that mean grave robbing?

Thats what I was gonne say. Seems like they [mostly mexicans] reproduce that stuff by the tons to sell to unexpecting Americans and other tourists.

I am not saying yours is fake tazzer but
I lived near Mexico city for a year and saw a lot of this stuff for sale and guys on the street corner would tell you it was illegal for them to sell and was highly valuable. You could usually get it for a couple pesos by the time you were done haggling.
My neighbor down there told me the locals make the artifacts and bury them in the mud for a few months to a year and when they dig them up they look old.

Genuine antiquities are very valuable and are looted from graves in Mexico and South America to be sold to American collectors. International law enacted in 1987 makes it a felony to buy, sell or own any antiquity so you have to be able to document it was in the country before that date.

They are also reproduced for sale to tourists and even faked to try to scam museums. Some of the fakes are very good.

I wouldn't drink or smoke from it. No telling what it's made from or was glazed with. Maybe Guano.
