Looking for more accuracy out of a 10/22
I have a 10/22 I've been shooting a lot. It has a scope, free floating bull barrel, trigger job, and tri-pod. I think I'm getting pretty good with it. I've been shooting those clay pigeons at 100 yards. If I put six down. I can hit all six within 8 shots at 100 yards. I can even hit the pieces left over from the hit pigeons almost every time. Is that good or bad? I would hit everyone with one shot, but every so often I get a bullet that just goes low. I'm thinking this is because of me and not the gun, but I don't know for sure.
I even my heart beat in causing the hairs on the scope to drop an inch or two. I've been taking 2 breaths holding it waiting for 2 heart beats and then shoot in between 2 and 3 heart beat. Is there a better way then this?
Well, now I want to go to the next level and shoot out to 200 yards. My scope is almost dead on at 100. What ballpark adjustment might I need to make and what are some good accurate 22's bullets I can get? After I get out to 200 with clay. I want to go to paper targets and try to do small groupings.
Thanks in advance

try eley ammo. they are all a little more accurate. i'd say darn good shootin at 100 yds[;)] 0 -
Unless you are useing match grade ammo you always get the flyers. I like CCI green tag for decent consistancy in a 22. Believe it or not Wolf makes a decent match grade 22 ammo also. If you use the cheap 22 ammo they do not have a consistant amount of powder and even though you aim at the same spot they will hit low on the long shots.
200yds with a 22 is quite a ways but fun when you can get dialed in.0 -
or other ammo, mine liked remington subsonic
not a record setter, but could put 5 under an inch @ 100yds
wind will play with slow .22s also0 -

First, the 10-22 is an awesome fun rifle, and it sounds like you have a nice version of it.
Second, the 10-22 simply is NOT a highly accurate gun. Yours probably does better than many, but it still is a 10-22.
Six pigeons with eight shots at a hundred yards....I think your gun should be able to do six with six, but I'm not sure I'm willing to be the guy behind the trigger to try and prove that. In short, I think you should be able to do six with six, but I don't think I'd do that, either.
Breathing: don't hold your breath. Either inhale and squeeze the trigger or exhale and squeeze the trigger (whichever works better for you), but don't hold your breath. Breathing is how we bring oxygen into the lungs where it enters the bloodstream and is carried to the muscles. Holding your breath interrupts this process, your muscles become deprived of oxygen, and your ability to hold the sight picture diminishes. I fire on the end of inhale. If I can't get a good sight picture within about 1 second after my inhale is complete I exhale and start over. I'm no competition shooter, but I still believe that you can't make a good shot when you're deprived of oxygen.
I can't answer your other questions other than to suggest you move to paper before you increase from 100 to 200 yards. Paper will tell you in 10 minutes how much of an adjustment you have to make.

Wolf ammo in centerfire is basically milsurp crap. But my understanding is that the subsonic Wolf .22 ammo is really good stuff. If you go with subsonic, you might find that it doesn't have enough power to cycle your 10-22. Then.....ummmmm.....you'll have to find another solution.0 -
I'm going to try 200 yards later next week. I wish I could today, but the boat races are in town and I'm getting ready to walk down town to them. It's going to be on great weekend. I'll wish I could post of pix, but my camera is at the bottom of a very big lake. 0 -

Honest answer; Sell the 10-22 and find a good Anschutz 1407,1411 if you can handle the weight. If not get a 1415-1416 they are lighter.
Feed it good ammo and shoot groups that a 10-22 can only drool over.0 -
My 10/22, which is built as a silhouette gun, loves Wolf Match Extra, great ammo and far cheeper than buying Eley or Lapua. Most small bore benchrest shooters will also use Wolf Match extra as practice ammo, they say that the accuracy is still there and it is cheeper to shoot. Try it, you'll like it.
Here is a great site for .22 Match ammo:

Also, you said that your rifle has a trigger job but that you might shoot low. Shooting low is telling me that there is too much pressure on the trigger, so eather you need to lighten the trigger further, or your mashing the trigger. Drop the trigger to 1 lb or less and you'll see a great improvement.
Of course if you want to really do some accurate work you can look at a rifle that was made for shooting the tighest possable groups, such as a Anschutz 2013 Supermatch.0 -

here is a good explination why what you seek is hard to get.
might look at getting a 17mach2 barrel for it.0 -
Try this on your 10-22 [:D]

Not sure that it will improve your shooting, but will add a new dimension to it!0
