THe one to use is spy bot search and destroy. Download directly from their website, then run an update, then scan.

The problem with a spyware detector is that they may not be able to get rid of a trojan horse. You can always delete it manually in safe mode.

This is what I do to someones computer that they think the have a virus, I look at their running process, one I see that doesn't seem right or I don't know what it is, I put it into google and search it, the .exe that is. If its not something that should be running I shut it down, if its a virus or spyware, I write it down to come back to it later. I then finish looking at the processes. I then manually delete the virus or spyware.

Another good source for knowing what is running on your computer is Hijackthis. Its a very simple program, will fix a few things, but it basically list completely what is running on your computer at that exact moment, this includes stuff running in IE or any other program. Hijackthis can be downloaded from download.com

If your buying a spy-ware download threw the Internet I would not buy unless I seen a "Hacker SAFE" in one of the corners of the screen and a tested date. I always use Ad-aware because its safe, efficient, and FREE.

    If you download freebee software.

You get what you are paying for.

Maybe so, but adaware finds things Norton does not.

Paying for protection is dumb, imo.

The free stuff works way better. I use AVG and Spyware Blaster. Spyware Blaster actually prevents the spyware from ever getting on the comp. The others just scan and remove it.

Norton is nothing but a resource hog. Mcafee is a fair program but it's no better than AVG, so why pay money for it?
