Bank of America (RANT!!!)
Them sorry suckers!! Well, here it is. I have an account with them, and my interest rate was in the single digits. All of a sudden, with no warning, it jumps to over twenty percent. This in turn raises my monthly payment to almost five hundred bucks. So I call to find out why, because I haven't had a late payment in over two years. What do they tell me? They say they sent out a notice that my interest rate will increase if I do not respond to it. Bad part about it, the wife don't remember receiving anything about this. The customer service rep has the nerve to tell me that I need to look more closely to my mail, so this don't happen again. At this point, I'm VERY unhappy with the progress of this situation, and I sure didn't want to hear someone telling me what I need to do, and I sure let the rep hear this. Well, they lower my interest rate back to the old rate that I had, but they can't do anything about the payment I owe them this month. So I ask the rep, "You can raise my interest rate, in turn raising my payment, lower my interest rate, but you can't lower payment?" Guess you know what that answer was. Nope. So I tell them that I can't make the payment for what they want, then she tells me that I will have a late fee charged to me for this. No win situation at this point. Even talked to a manager, and pretty much the same thing.
So always read your mail, be it junk mail or not.
Guess I'm done for now.

I had accounts with BAC from 1970 until they screwed me one too many times in 2001 and I closed all my accounts including credit cards. I used to be a decent bank, but they have evidently gone on a hiring binge in the local gestapo neighborhood, because anything resembling customer-friendly is long gone. Such the pity 0 -
Interest rates on CC's are, and have been, on the rise.
Another reason to pay them off in full every month, or don't use them.
Unfortunately, they ALL can, and do change terms, by mailing you a notice of change.
Nothing you can do, IMHO, except pay it off, and cancel.
I still have a Capital One that is locked at 4.99%,.........they try their best to get me to cancel it, or change the card to a "rewards" card, of course at a much higher rate.
I just let it set there, and use my other dividend cards!![:D][:D][8D]0 -
After repeated screw ups on behalf of BofAs' total incompetence, I pulled out a 50k liquid cd and closed all my accounts , walked across the parking lot to Washington Mutual and couldn't be happier with their attitude and customer service. The last straw was when BofA opened a heloc for 25k in our name when one was never applied for. Their excuse was that it was indeed their mistake , unfortunatly our last name and the real applicants were similiar. Un -friggin- believable. The agent even provided us with the real applicants name and THEIR account number.Your money and apparently your personal information is not at all safe with BofA. 0 -
I despise bank of america, it's the walmart of the banking industry, sorry Sam Walton. 0 -
There's something wrong with a system whereby a company can raise the interest on a loan THEY'VE ALREADY GIVEN YOU, at their discretion.
But they can do this legally.....best to pay the balance in full at the end of every month and feel a little bit of joy that they're serving you without making a penny for it. I don't always manage to pay in full at the end of the month, but I do my best.0 -
That's why, if at all possible, try to find a LOCALLY owned bank. They are few and far between now, but they are still out there. Where I bank, the President lives in my town, all members of the board of directors live in my town, and if they screw somebody over, the whole dang town knows about it QUICK! So they try their best not to screw anyone!!! I got tied up in a big bank once. Was locally owned, and they sold out. About 6 months later, sold again. Same thing happened about a year later. Unfortunately for me, my mortgage was paid off in between the second and third time. Because of a paper work screw up by the second owners, had the dangest time convincing the third owners that I actually owned, free and clear, my house! Took a littley lawyerly convincing to make them finally believe it! I withdrew all my money (not much, but all I had!), went across the street to the really locally owned bank and have been super happy ever since. 0 -
bama, I'm sure if you would read the contract you signed with BOA they did just as the contract said.
I don't know all the details between you and BOA. Someting triggered the jump in rate. Late payment, non-payment or the min wasn't paid. Only you and BOA knows.
If they are charging you 20% find another CC card company and roll it over to them at the lower rate.

I to had WAY to many issues with that bank, I also gave up my CC and with drew all money from checking and saving and went elsewhere. Customer service is a joke. 0 -
ASK THEM FOR THE RETURN RECIEPT FOR THE REGEISTERED MAIL NOTICE. 0 -
It would pay everyone to read their bank statements very closely....
I sent off a subscription for SHUTTERBUG magazine for one year, at 12 bucks. I was a happy camper.
Until last month when my wife informed me SHUTTERBUG had accessed our bank account (I paid for the subscription with my debit card) and charged my account 24 dollars for a renewal I DID NOT ASK FOR, nor know about.
When we called them, we weren't allowed to speak to a human being, but instead, a computer asked a series of questions directed to the subject of having debits taken from your account without permission or knowledge, and what to do to have the money returned to your account (within two or three business days and short by about 2 dollars).
Where do they get off taking money from my personal bank account without permission, and without my knowledge? I WILL NOT buy any object, item or service again, that requires giving my bank account numbers. And I'll never do business with the publishers of SHUTTERBUG again.

This is why I don't go into much debt. The only debt I'm really deep into is my house, but it's a fixed rate and I'm working my butt off to pay it off. 0 -

BOA owes us $800.oo for over payment when we paid our house off. They tell us we need to send certain paperwork. When we do they say we need to send something else also. When we send the second set of paperwork, they have lost the first set and want us to send the first set again. This has has been going on for about 8 years. We have tried talking to them on the phone and keep getting put on hold and keep switching us from person to person. They send us a letter each year stating they owe us the money and will we contact them. Now they sent us a letter stating they have now turned the money over to the State and we need to get it from them.Real nice of BOA to earn intrust on our money for the last 8 years.

Did you try certified letters followed by small claims court?0 -
No.We are going to contact the State and see how long they will screw us around. It was a strange deal.We got the house from my wifes dead uncle and the house and morgage remained in his name per our lawyers advice.About 10 years ago we combined the original morgage and the second we took out on it after we had it put in our name. The family member that was the executor to the estate died and all the paperwork he had was lost along with all the copies of the death certificate.Every time we delt with BOA they wanted a copy of the death cerificate. At $35.oo a pop it was getting expensive. We have lived here for 26 years and have made all the house payments, property taxes and insurance that as due.BOA had no problem taking our check every month, but when they owe us

A friend sent me a $10.00 check drawn on his BOA account; I went to the local BOA branch to cash it. I was informed that since I didn't have a BOA account, there would be a $5.00 fee for cashing the check.
I deposited the check into my account rather than pay them blood suckers, and swore I wouldn't ever do business with them.0 -
The gov't is even leaving Bank of America for their Gov't Travel Charge Cards. I don't know who we're going to, but the new contract is being worked on now. 0 -
Sorry to hear about your trouble. I like the credit union I'm with....but I don't think I actually LIKE any of these money-dealing institutes. My credit card is used a good bit for business purchases.....the balance is like a bungee ride off the Grand Canyon skywalk. I can't imagine having to keep track of my JUNK MAIL in case they decided to change things up. Thats just awful. America's First.....it was Iron and Steel Credit Union in the past. They are really nice when I go in the offices to get anything done (but that isn't all that often.) 0 -
