Antivirus help

I installed the newer Norton version 10.0 and applied for licensing. Now, the computer says it doesn't know what program made the file, and will not download and/or open the licensing attachment. WTH[?]

    I hate Norton AntiVirus. You should get rid of it now...before it takes over your computer. It will happen!!!

    Norton sucks. I bought a new pc with norton on it.I'm still cleaning norton off of it.AGV or AVG, Panda, or Zonealarm are better.While I was off the net norton was trying to make me believe that unless I installed there crap I was in danger. By the way stay away from Microsofts Vista, it also sucks. I should of stayed with XP.

    Im sure you guys know more than me, but I bought a new laptop with Vista and I love it. Ive always had Norton AV and it blocked many intrusion attempts, tracking cookies and many E-mail viruses.

    My son likes Norton, but I got SystemMechanics 6.0, which includes Kaspersky anti-virus, and I love it. Sometimes, though, it is almost TOO protective.

    Norton is one of those cures that's just as bad as the disease. It is a bloated, resource-intensive drain on your CPU. Get rid of Norton and use Kaspersky anti-virus.

    I'm generally NOT a fan. Too many resources used. Too many times being slightly behind the curve. Too much red tape.

    This isn't to say that Norton is a bad product. It's imperfect and I've found other avenues more suitable for my purposes.

    Vista... Probably a good enough product for general purposes. At this point it's considered by many to be pure poison for a lot of specific uses. Until MicroSoft and users both get a better handle on Vista, it won't be a choice for migration anytime soon. Drivers remain a huge issue.

    I like Norton...just the basic antivirus software. Their larger package programs use too many resources, but their basic antivirus software is great. I believe Norton 2006 was rated the best antivirus software available.

    Your main problem is that yer still using Microshaft's Windows.

    Get a Apple. Or you could always install Xandros for a operating system. It's half windows/half Linux. They don't need antivirus.

    You are so wrong!

    All operating systems have programs (malware) written against them. MAC is no exception, however it and others are less fertile fields based on sheer numbers.

    If you happen to be saying that malware written for Windows doesn't affect the MAC OS, then you'd be mostly correct. The problem being that while not directly affected, the MAC will become a carrier for virus transmission. Not considered a good neighbor policy in the PC world!

    Anyone thinking that they're immune to malware by virtue of their OS or their particular anti-virus package is sadly mistaken. Those who choose not to partake in an anti-virus program by virtue of their OS are not acting within the best interests of the electronic community.

    Bottom line... If you are a user of the Internet, if you share files, if you use E-mail, then you are 100% certain to be a carrier of, or affected by malware. Denial doesn't deal with the problem.

    Norton and AOL are the bane of the internet. I use TrendMicro as does thousands of commercial enterprises. If your AV software is free, you deserve what you get.

    Anyone who thinks they are immune from virus infestations because the have a machine that says MAC or APPLE on it are in for a rude awakening. If you access the WWW you are exposed. Wear protection. [:D]

    OSX.Leap.A is a worm that targets installs of Macintosh OS X and spreads via iChat Instant Messenger program.

    sooooo, kaspersky or AVG which is the best??? and how much are they??? I bought this new norton for the office, but had 2yrs left of contract,..so figured at home it would fit the bill[?]
