selling help
i'm not at the point where i need to sell my guns just yet, but i do have a thing or two to list. i just read the "how to" part of the auction side and everything seems pretty easy, but how do i figure in shipping costs? the things i'm gonna list require no transfer as they are non firearms. looking to post a guitar w/ hard case and exrta strings, a bar light and a jigsaw w/ hard case and saw blades. i'll put up pics too. any ideas?

Just choose "buyer pays actual shipping costs", and then you are covered for wherever the buyer is, and how fast he wants it. 0 -

After you sell an item,.......you contact the buyer, get his address, ask him how fast he wants it, and then go to USPS, or Fedex, or UPS's site, and calculate your shipping costs, from your zip to the buyers. Contact him back with the final price including shipping. You will need an accurate scale. 0 -

The other way is to add a standard shipping charge, that is enough to cover the most expensive method you could run into,........but I have usually used the method I spoke of before, because the buyer is not "overpaying" for shipping,.......especially if someone in your own state, or really close by, ends up buying the item. 0 -
good point. i don't wanna overcharge for anything. too many people do that and count the overcharge as income. i just wanna sell my items to the highest bidder and charge them the exact amount for shipping. no handling fees as they are already in my hands. my only hope is to make enough from each sale to pay on some bills while i'm out of work. .01 start, no reserve, money order and checks for payment as i have no way to accept credit cards.
i hope to have them set up this evening and of course everyone here will get first crack at em.0 -
Go here to USPS.COM calculate postage page. Type in size and weight (close estimate works) and it'll tell you how much. If it asks, select a zip code furthest from you and that should be the most it will cost. Will give you a good idea anyways.
I personally rarely bid on something if shipping isn't stated, without first asking the seller what the shipping charge will be. If you want to avoid 20 folks asking what the charge is, use the calculator and put in a set shipping.

Some want a fixed high amount,......some would rather have the real cost charged!

For something of that weight, I'd think at least $15., and

Do the lookup, with zips, and you will get an idea of what it costs.
Don't forget to figure in your costs for packaging, and also for insurance,........unless the item is not worth insuring.
Once again,.....you can figure all of that on the shippers sites.
All you need is a reasonably accurate scale, and round off to the higher pound.0 -
i went to the link that jbw put up, went to the calculator, figured seattle was a pretty good distance away, pick one if the zip codes from there 98199, guesstimated size of the case and weight for the guitar, low end was under $9, high end was $78
that was from my zip 431230
