WOW what a fun evening we had........
Ok...so I got off from work yesterday and we headed up to a local gun shop to do some pricing on reloading stuff (Ken I haven't for got ya buddy). While we were there, my buddy John got a call about the tornado sirens going off over by his house, then we heard the EMS signal going off on the radio at the shop. We decided to head out and follow John home so he could park his motorcycle and then head back out to follow the storm. Yes, Crystal and I chase storms.
We had to pass by a park on our way to Johns place and a LEO was out trying to get the park cleared due to the tornado warnings. In front of us was John and a minivan infront of him. So, this officer is trying to evacuate as many people from the park as he could at one time (little league soccer and all that) while still not blocking the rest of the traffic driving through there when this dumb lady in the minivan tries to get INTO the park so she could play with her kids and dog. She starts to turn and he stops her, walks to her window (John could hear the conversation) and he says "Where you going lady?" (meanwhile the tornado sirens are blaring you couldn't miss em)She points to that park and says something about the kids playing and running the dog before the storm comes. The officer (at this point Crystal and I could hear him from our car) says "ARE YOU STUPID LADY? GET THE FORK OUTTA HERE!!!" She drives away pretty quick after that.
Crystal watches the storm behind us as we head to Johns and keep me updated on it as we go. After we get to his place, literally within minutes we get hit with a huge downpour and high winds. We turn on the tv to confirmations of funnel clouds, possible touchdowns within earshot of downtown, wind gusts upto 60mph, hail...all the fun stuff.
And 15 minutes it was all over and out of town.
I wanna do it again.

There is nothing quiet like tornado season. While the storms can and often are destructive it is an awesome sight and feeling to witness. We miss being in the tornado alley of the midwest. Will be returning to the area in the not to distant future as it is home to us. Gets in your blood. swamp_thing 0 -
yes it does. i'll never forget seeing my first. at 4am running it down in an 89 ford festiva. 0 -
Of course, it is always better to be the chaser and not the chased. I truly think that of all the natural wonders one can experience, severe thunderstorm/tornado weather is the most amazing. 0 -
other than the event itself, i like to watch the clouds as they form and grow. the sheer size they become mesmerizes me. 0 -
oh swampy, i have an hvac question for you.
my ac is down...keeps freezing over. on the outside unit the ribs are kinda gone due to...uhmmm...puppy piddle power. can i replace those and where can i get it? on the inside, the ice gets so thick that it takes nearly a day to defrost. what can i do to prevent or severely stall this effect?0
