I too am seriously interested in getting into metal detecting. If I ever get my finances straightened out That is something I'm going to buy and the wife is all for it. I've been looking at White Metal Detectors. 0 -
So are we loking at 200 bucks...or does it need to be in the 5-700 dollar range to help winnow out the pop tabs ? 0 -
I have a Fisher Gold Bug 2 and a Whites MXT. Both are decent gold detectors as well as iron artifacts. If you get one make sure and get a good set of headphones. It makes a big difference in hearing small targets. Until you get used to it.........DIG EVERY HIT [:D] 0 -
Figures...everything is ALWAYS 200 bucks over what I want to spend...
These detectors find raw nuggets..the GMT or MXT ?
So..you guys that get experienced can tell the difference between pop tabs...and a gold ring ?0 -
I just use a big ole magnet. [:D][:D] 0 -
If your buddy tells you ware he's gonna be metal searchin the nezt day, never go there esrly in the mornin with an old long butchers knife and a pocket full of new coins. You may be tempted to jab deep slits in the ground just the right size to drop shiny pennys in. 0 -

Yes they do work, but don't bother with a "cheap" one. You get what you pay for if you buy a Whites.[;)]

...yeah. A Garrett...forget which model but its all auto, and touch pads.
Really neat things...weeds out "junk".
Best to get OLD maps and find old cattle drive trails, places where Indians were in numbers, as in their winter or summer hunting grounds. There you can look at the landscape and find natural areas of shelter that you might use...they would have done the same.
Grade schools are great for finding a few bucks in change. Just look along the edge of the school sidewalks; the kids drop their money, it rolls into the grass, and you can find it along the edge of the walk w/o digging.
Playgrounds, picnic areas are good too...[;)]

If you like to walk, and have the time, you never know what you will find. 0 -

i have one. a bounty hunter quick draw. i've taken it to the beach a a couple of times when on vacation. i've found some rings, coins (new and old one was an old mercury dime) and various other trinkets. once you learn how to use it, it's a fun toy to play with. 0
