Fiance v. fiancee

I recently told my class that in French, (though I myself speak German not French- at least not much) that fiancee is the woman but fiance is the man. But in English use I've only seen fiancee.... anyone know about the use of fiance in English??????????

Early morning linguistics question...[:D]

    Many thanks; so I was right- saying 'fiancee' for a man is wrong... without the ee ending with the accent mark, it is pronounced fee-ahns.

    Your fiance (I prefer the term "financier')is the man you plan to marry; your fiancee (or fianc?e) is the woman you plan to marry.

    Ah, but if I said, "I speak Deutsch" some folks might not know what I meant. Just like I say I'm flying to Munich this Spring- not I'm flying to M?nchen. Vergessen Sie nicht, jemand der 'Deutsch' spricht, spricht auch eine germanische Sprache, und das Fach ist Germanistik, nicht Deutschistik... also, "German" geht auch. [;)]
