    I've never been a collector, so the thought of new blue doesn't bother me at all. Them's some good-lookin' shootin' arns. If I hadn't blown this year's gun budget building the Smith, I'd give it a whirl.
    So just consider this a bump.

    IMO 99% of the time refinishing doesn't make economic sense. A well-worn Official Police is worth maybe $200. Rebluing will cost $150-$200 and will add no more than $25 in value (if that, it often actually reduces value). I will be shocked and stunned if these go for the $350 it would take to justify refinishing.

    Dutch auction is when multiple items are offered. High bidder can take 1 or all or as many as he wants at the winning bid. Any left over go to lower bidders.

    There are 3 guns up for auction. I bid $200 and you bid $225 and win the auction. You take as many of the 3 as you want at $225 each and if you leave any I can take as many as I want at $200.

    One thing that can bite you with a Dutch auction (and I got bit once) is that your bid is the actual bid. If the start price is $100 and you bid $300 you are committed at $300 as the system doesn't automatically adjust your bid to the start price. If I am the 1st bidder on a Dutch I don't bid over the start price. If others start bidding then I can go as high as I want but not on the opening bid.

    So... what are these actually worth as a shooter? Thinking of getting the wife one, if they won't get bid up too much...

    They are worth whatever someone is willing to pay for them. I bought one off the suction side about 3 months ago and it was well-worn but worked fine and I paid $165. That was the starting price and I was the only bidder. I see them offered at $150-$450 depending on condition. IMO an Official Police in nice shape would be a good deal at $250.

    Re-blue for me is only $60....the gunsmith here is AWESOME and does me a deal on things. These weren't in desperate need for it. I just thought they would do better on line with the new black finish. I may put up a group of un-touched up guns just to see how they do compared to these.

    What kind of rates could some anonymous Joe like me expect?
    I realize $60.00 would be for preferrred, higher-volume customers like yourself, but I've got two projects that I'll be looking at re-blues for in the future...

    Okay I just read my last post and realized it sounded like you have all of your inventory re-blued....

    That's not what I meant...

    But you'd probably get a better rate than just anybody...

    I understand what you are saying....no problems here. I get all of my work done by this same gunsmith and just about all of the stores in Birmingham use him as well. He is a diver, Sheriff, gunsmith and avid hunter. If you like I will contact him and give him your phone number so you can speak with him about getting rates for what you need done. You can just send me an e-mail and I will pass it along so he can contact you.

    I think he does discounts more for quantity than anything else....so if you are looking to get a number of things done you can ask him about that when you speak to him.

    Excellent. I'm gonna have to let the sting of rebuilding my 14-4 wear off before I tackle any other projects. With a 2-year-old at home and on small-market radio salary, I have to eat the elephant one bite at a time. And thanks for the offer, I'll be in touch.

    I have more guns....there will be guns for many many months listed. I like the "odd ball" guns to get all the time possible. These aren't so odd.

    I think that on an OP any serial up to around 86,000 should be good to go for C&R.

    Saxon....thank you for the info!!! I have added a "blurb" to the text kind of quoting what you said. I have gotten a few e-mails asking if they are C&R eligable and I think adding to the text may help with those people asking about it.

    Actually this number only tells you how many you have bid on. I got the same message, told me winning on partial, yet there was a 3 by my name.

    Hmmmm....I thought that was how it worked. I've only done dutch auctions a few times. I will have some more to post soon. Not any guns that I can think of, but I have a pile of "stuff" I have been meaning to post. I will have to look at the details more closely.

    I do know that when it ends I get the names and addresses in order of who is higher to lowest on the winners.

    Thats not how GunBroker defines a Dutch Auction ...
    ... here's what the buyers tutorial says: quote:Dutch Auctions
    Dutch auctions are a special format in which the seller has multiple identical items to sell. You can bid on anywhere from one item to the available quantity of items. At the auction close, all winning bidders win their items at the lowest winning bid price.

    For example, a seller may have five copies of Stephen King's 'The Stand' (on videotape) to sell. Each copy of 'The Stand' is three videotapes together as a set. In the auction listing, the quantity posted will be 5, and the bid price is the amount bid for each item. If you want to bid on two copies at $10 each, you enter 2 in the Quantity field and 10.00 in the Bid Amount field. You do not enter 20.00 in the bid amount field, as this would be a bid for 2 copies at $20 each.

    You can identify Dutch auctions by the blue (D) in the item title, and because the quantity listed in the item listing will be greater than one. A Dutch auction cannot have a Reserve Price.

    AutoBid is not enabled on Dutch auctions.
