Life is a real bitch (I hope we can still use that). I have been sitting around this afternoon thinking and drinking. I work 6 days a week 10+ hours a day for what. I have my toys that i love. A new house, guns, harley, truck, jeep and what ever else i seem to want. but all i really want is to move me and my lovely wife home and enjoy my Family while their still around. I could live in a tent drive a pinto and work for 5 dollars an hour and be more happy. We have a family cabin that growing up i spent half my life there now i make it the 1-2 times a year. And for what. I think that I have let worldly thing get in the way of what is important to ME.

Is a person's life defined by one's failures and mistakes or achievements?

Is a person's successes built on a foundation of failures?

Can a person really achieve anything without taking risk?

I suspect most people over estimate the risk and underestimate the reward.

    RULES OF LIFE...

I find the last one to be all too true!

*If you're too open-minded, your brains will fall out.

*Age is a very high price to pay for maturity.

*Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

*Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.

*My idea of housework is to sweep the room with a glance.

*It is easier to get forgiveness than permission.

*If you look like your passport picture, you probably need the trip.

*Bills travel through the mail at twice the speed of checks.

*No husband has ever been shot while doing the dishes.

*A balanced diet is a cookie in each hand.

*Middle age is when broadness of the mind and narrowness of the waist change places.

*Opportunities always look bigger going than coming.

*Junk is something you've kept for years and throw away three weeks before you need it.

*Experience is a wonderful thing. It enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.

*By the time you can make ends meet, they move the ends.

*Thou shalt not weigh more than thy refrigerator.

*Someone who thinks logically provides a nice contrast to the real world.

*Life is like a roll of toilet tissue - the closer it gets to the end the faster it goes.

    Yupp that's life...
If u work you can afford to buy all this wonderfull toys and stuff, but hardly have the time to enjoy ?m.

If you're unemployed or a pensioner maybe. Most likely you have plenty of time to do things...But u dont have the money for it.

Learning that lesson cost me (at least) one wife and one heart attack.

Don't get me wrong I love my life and i have a lot to live for. It just seems that things could get simpler and I would be just as happy. I have a goal to move home with in 5 years but what if it is to late. What if i can't enjoy my Parents. I care for them alot and want to spend as much time with them as i can before they are gone. I almost lost my mom a couple of years ago. I was scared then but looking back it scares the sh;t out of me that she only had a 10% chance

That is a big part of the reason for the changes I have made in my business.
Too many things,.......not enough time to enjoy them, and most of all the family in your life that WILL not be here forever.

Sometimes a short stay on the dark side helps one to appreciate what you have in life. A visit to a third world country. Charity work, etc.

A good amount of single malt and the next day is like I am born again!! Depression is usually temporary and sets in when we find ourselves in a work grind, like a treadmill with no way to get off!

I have made many major changes in my life, and each time you have a new set of circumstances, new wife, different city, different home, car, etc. I have found I still have had to face myself in the mirror and have learned as I aged that sometimes that is the most difficult thing to do! To face yourself and change yourself is very hard!

I'm in the same boat Big.

I work two jobs (ok, one is for my toys and discounts), but my other job is a 12hr swing position which I had(the swing part, not the job). I do live in the same town as our families though. Though we don't have as much time as I'd like to see them.

I figure if I work at this pace for 2 more years, we can have the cars paid off (we have very little other debt) and start our family.

Best of luck to you, don't kill yourself.

[8D]-Well, big800, it seems that you're getting close to the point of no return--

--I guess you're in/was LEO and you're not financialy strapped-you better make your move NOW--

---I'm retired Navy/State LEO and I live enjoyably in California, I have my winter (hahaha) home and my summer (hahaha) home in the Sierras, my kids are all happy and taken care of--

--You have to SET your priorities and MOVE, so you can dwell on the future and not fret on the past--

Mid life crisis are painful at times.
My Mom passed away last month and I sat on her porch in the swing and thought about my life and what I really want.
I went back to work and told the boss I will be leaving by September 1st.
I am going to give up a good job making close to 90K a year for a simpler way. My wife has agreed to the change.
There has got to be more than slaving away to support a house and cars.
No one ever laid on their death bed and said I wish I would have spent more time working.
Wish me luck because I AM going to do it.

All of your worldly possesions dont mean a lot if your not happy with your life. All of the toys in the world dont mean anything if your not happy. At least you relize that you're not as happy as you would like to be. That is a major step, but you still have a lot of thinking to do to find what you truly want out of the rest of your life. All I can say is good luck

You know big, I was thinking the exact same thing this evening, before I read your post. All started at a restaurant we went to for dinner. Had an old guy next to us having supper by himself. Another guy to the right, just drinking iced teas by himself, reading a book. Then I thought about the waitress putting up with the mess for probably 10-12 hours.

Then stopped by Walmart for some groceries. There are some sad souls in there. Get to the check out with about 100 items and we get this huge woman for a cashier. She had to pace herself and take breaks because she was literally out of breath scanning our stuff.

On the way home, I get a call that a party's off because my uncle who has a rare form of lukemia just had his health take another dive and they're having a benefit for him Saturday. One of them guys that's always been around and it'll be weird when he's gone.

Then I found out this older fellow at work that's been married for 30 years, supporting his unsupportive, non-producing wife's health care, just got served with divorce papers last week. She's basically out of her mind and got a lawyer. Now she's entitled to 100 dollars a month more than the guy's total monthly unemployment check over the winter months. This guy should have retired years ago. Now he's back to smoking and chewing, feeling sorry for himself and waiting to die.

Not much about this day has been uplifting.

Just made me think I'm damn lucky to be 26, have a wife, job, health insurance, vacations planned, and hobbies. Despite only getting about 5 hours to myself today, I guess this is about as good as it gets. There's people a hell of a lot worse off than me.

And you won't catch me hoarding vacation days.

Depending on your age, I'd say your sitting pretty. I'm 40 and workin' my tail off so I can retire in at least 20 years.
There is something to be said about the KISS (Keep it simple steve) principle. Sounds like your on your way to figuring out what is really important. Keep your chin up.

Every time I think about how much I work and how I should be home with the kids....I remember how bad it was when I WAS home with the kids. Not bad like made for TV movie bad.....but there was NO extra money. We couldn't even give the three of ours the little bit of money it cost for the silly animal show when it came to the school. Its just too hard to make ends meet on a single income. Plus, I hated sitting around watching everyone dirty up the house.

I'm a happier person when I work. I would like to take a good vacation every once in a while. It seems I hit a "slump" from time to time and just can't get anything done. It'll get better. Some of your problem is thinking about these things while drinking. Things that are sad or seem hard are just ten times worse when you think about them "tipsy."
