THE MEAT MAN..EVER BOUGHT???
Do you guys get the "MEAT MAN" comming to your door. You know the door to door meat guy that sells frozen steaks. Has anyone ever bought from them? Trucks with freezers on the back. Just lookin for feedback...

I never have, but my mother-in-law does all the time.
She gave my wife and I some to try.....they were just as good as what I was buying at the supermarket, but cheaper.0 -

Every once in a while a little truck seems to pick a house on the block at random, knock on the door and give a pitch that someone ordered the steaks and defaulted, so now the guy has permission to sell them at greatly reduced prices. I send him packing, if for no other reason than our two freezers and two refrigerator freezers are full and I'm trying to reduce the inventory enough to make room for an elk. Mainly I just don't like being lied to, which is how the pitch comes across. 0 -
I have when I lived back in Illinois, never had any problems, though it weird seeing two dudes selling meat out of a freezer that was being hauled around with a S-10 pickup[:)] 0 -
I just had they guy stop by and tell me he had only one box left and his boss wants it sold. He said his boss said to sell it for half price so he could head back to the shop. I told him I wanted to see in the freezer because that sounded like a line of bull. He said no so I asked him to leave.[:D] 0 -

There's a local guy that drives a truck all painted up like a cow. You can order from him or call in and order and have it delivered. Everyone I know likes his meat. He does the whole gamut. Beef, pork, seafood. 0 -

a friend of mine owned a company that has around 36 trucks out in Arizona, here is what he told me
most of the meat comes from dairy cows which is illegal to sell due to steroids and hormones used, they butcher the cow, make the cuts of meat, then stick them in a big tumbler that resembles a clothes dryer, they tumble them in water mixed with preservative to keep them red, they let them sit over night so they can soak up as much liquid as possible to make up the weight, THEY ARE NOT U.S.D.A INSPECTED, they may claim they are, but they are not0 -

In college I gave in once. Lived in an AGR fraternity with a bunch of ag majors. We thought we knew what good meat is supposed to lookl like. Like I say, I gave in to that line. Not because I believed him, but because we were going to eat steak within the week. I was actually impressed. It was very good meat.0 -

Ours (a good friend) Doesn't do that, he only sells to high end restaurants. No frozen meat truck, If he get gets an over run and offers, we pay[:D] 0 -
The local guy around here (the one with the cow-painted truck) sells a lot of meat and stays local. I think that he would lose all his business if he got a bad reputation. This is a rural area where word spreads FAST. I asked about places around here to buy cases of meat or bulk meat without buying half a cow. Everyone pointed to him. I don't eat much meat anymore with the exception of 3 or 4 skinless boneless chicken breasts a week and sometimes a little beef with my home-made Korean meals on Sunday. Based on his reputation in the local area, I'd buy from the meat truck guy. 0 -
Think about how many times that freezer door is opened during the day. Those guys only plug it back up at a motel at night. Sometimes late night with an early morning start. My freezer will start to thaw out in about 6 hrs and will start dumping water on the floor after 8-9 hrs when the power is off (opening the door every 2 hrs after the first 4 hrs to check)

Around here they do not go door to door. They park on the side of the highway and sell from there.
They are a legitimate company that even takes credit cards and such.
I buy from them quite often (full cases at a time as he gives me a great price on a full case) and they are just as good as anything I get from the grocery store around here!
Every case also has the USDA inspected emblem on it!0 -

Here it is American West Meats.
A case of steaks costs me $120 and lasts my house about 2 months and we eat alot of steaks (atleast 2 times per week) and normally my dad will come over one of those times durring the week for dinner.
So we eat alot of steak! And at thier prices it makes it afordable to do so!0 -
I don't buy anything from anyone who knocks on my door without an appointment.
However, my ex-brother-in-law sells meat from a freezer in the back of his truck (dry ice in the freezer) and makes a good living from it, and has lots of repeat customers.0 -
So far as I know, the Schwan's trucks are all self-contained refrigerator units, and they won't stop at your house unless you call and ask for a delivery.
Schwan's has the BEST egg rolls available.0 -

dairy cows don't have drugs in their system, you want to know why? Every tank that is picked up by a milk truck from a producer, aka farm, is tested for chemicals such antibiotics, milk producing drugs, ect. before it goes into the truck. If it test positive, the milk will not be picked up, the farmer will not be able to sell it. Cows that are sick are milked with separate units. This is from about 18 years of experience, I HATE DAIRY COWS!
Secondly,
The beef you buy at the grocery store has more steroids in in then any dairy cow ever did if it comes from people that do that type of thing. Meat is tested though, but I don't think in high enough quantities at this time.
thirdly, beef from say an angus taste just as good as beef from a holstein if they have had the same diet all their life. The meat will be the same, it will look the same, have the same fat content, ect.
Fourth, dairy cows usually end up going to the meat grinder rather then the steak table. I think Mcdonalds bought all the old cows in all of Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. Yes, I said Mcdonalds, they have a hamburger grinding plant in Cincinnati. Every old or down cow we ever had went there. Now the FDA won't let you sell down livestock, so you have to put a bullet in their head.
Swans has some of the best food you can buy.0 -
