22-250 -v- 204

One of our guys at work is considering a Savage model 10 predator in either 204 or 22-250. I have neither caliber so I told him I would ask here.

What are your opinions on one over the other. Ballistics tables show the 204 shoots flatter but the 22-250 has more energy. Most of what we shoot are coyotes and bobcats and he wants to salvage the pelts, so a 223 or 243 is out as he has seen what my wifes 223 and my 243 will do to them.

Thoughts?

    I'm in the same boat regarding my next T/C Encore barrel, which I want to be either 22-250 or 204, although I've given some thought to 222 and 223..

    I too would appreciate any information on performance regarding these kinds of calibers.

    I like my 22-250 alot but haven't tried it on a coyote yet

    i have a friend that is a yote hunter, he swears by the 204 because of the clean entry and exit holes it leaves, i seen his first pelt after it was done, i have to say i agree

    I have encore barrels in both calibers.

    204 will out perform the 222 and 223. and if you think your going to shoot surplus 223 ammo out of any bolt or single shot rifle and get any accuracy or consitancy your sadly mistaken. the 22-250 may shoot a touch farther but it isn't worth the extra recoil. I reload for both and find the 204 to be more cost effective. 2-204's for every 1-22-250 in the powder department.

    don't use 50-55gr v-max it will POP that coyote and ruin the hide.
    been there done that.

    Well 22-250 is in between those so if i where i'd say 204 is worth a try and if he doesn't like it you can have a giveway here [;)]

    I have shot coyotes with both 22-250 and 223 and both do about the same damage to a hide. They are both 22 cal so the holes are going to be the same. Tell him to go with the 204
