Hunting Out West
I have never been hunting out west where there are Elk and Mule Deer. How does one go about planning a hunting trip to the western states? Are there public lands to hunt on or would it be best to go to a hunting lodge and hunt with a guide? I know it's huge out there and would be easy to get lost. I think it would also expensive to hire a guide. Any tips? Thanks

First off pick a state you want to hunt. Apply for tag. When you successfully draw a tag start researching that state and call the game dept. and ask to talk to a Game Warden.
The people at the desk that answer the phone have limited info. Get the Game wardons phone number from them and give him a call.
It will be the most valuable call you make in planning your hunt.
You do not need a guide to hunt in the west unless you have more money than you know what to do with and or want to be catored to.
Myself, I enjoy the planning stages almost as much as the actual hunt.0 -

Plenty of mule deer to hunt in Nebraska, Some realy bigs one too if you know where to look[;)]
About five years ago i ran into one that would have been in the top five for the state record. Unfortunately, i was archery hunting and he was 200+ yards away from me[V]0
