Red wings or Doc martins, both are not cheap, both are well made and red wings have really been great on my feet.

I'm wearing Timberland Pro's right now. I've tried them all. Seems like they are great for about six months and then my feet start hurting. Wolverine DuraShock is the only one I had that the sole split. I've had Redwings that I couldn't wear out, but they eventually made my feet hurt and I had to get something new. If you really like the Timberlands, take them to a shoe repair shop and see if they can re-sole them. I always thought it funny that people would pay hundreds of dollars for Cowboy boots but try to scrimp on work boots. I would gladly pay $250 or more for a pair of work boots that would last two years and not make my feet hurt. I don't think there is such a boot.

My father-in-law swears by Redwings. I have never tried Wolverines, and then it would be multishocks probably. I agree that I do not mind spending good money for work boots, I just want to get my monies worth. I work in a shipyard on the east coast in Virginia, and my work envirnment can be rough on boots. My Timberland Pro's soles are not repairable because there is no soleplate to seperate the sole from the bottom of the boot.

Depends what kind of work you are doing. Personally I would advise agianst red wings. I used them as a welder and in the oilfield and the boots would last only 6 months or so. The boots got a work out don't get me wrong, but for the amount of money they cost I would not of gotten them if my company didn't pay for them.

I would like to try Danners since their boots are amazing for hunting and lasting forever. My father had his pair of work boots for 20 some years before HE finally died, his Danners were still ok. He was only a truck driver though and didn't put alot of stress on them compared to the jobs I've had.

I would try Danners and if they didn't last either in the kind of work you do I'd just buy cheapy boots since they will get destoryed fairly quickly regardless.

Danners and Wisco, both made in Oregon. I like the red wings also.

The first two pictures are Danners I don't have pics of Wisco.

The Danners are gor-tex waterproof and insulated. The Red Wings are neither but I think you can buy their work boots any way you need them.

    They don't get any better.

I've worn Carolina, Wolverine, Worx, Stanley, Danner, etc.

Red Wing is by far the most comfortable I've ever worn.

I used to replace mine every 3-4 months, I've worn the same Red Wings for 14month straight. 12+ hour shifts in some of the worst chemicals and temperature extremes you could imagine. They are in fantastic shape still. I'll need new soles in about 2-3 months, but the leather is still almost as good as new.

I've worn my Red Wing L.A Firefighters since 1982. Three re-soles, but the leather is still good.

I can warn you to watch out for the Rocky boot composite soles. I had a new pair that sat on my closet shelf for over three years. When When I took them out for a motorcycle ride in the winter wet months the soles crumbled and fell apart. Rocky sent me some new composite soles and the boot repair guy said they were total crap and advised me not to put them on. So I installed the Goodyear welt type and paid half the price of a new pair to fix them. But the boots were gor-tex and 600 gram insulated so worth the fix in my opinion.

Never had any issues with my Red Wings or my Danners. Danners by the way are $200+ for a good pair and wesco is about $300+. Wesco is hand made from a mold that you provide them. They supplied the loggers around Oregon and Washington state for many, many years and make a "Rolex" of a product that most people cannot afford today.

I'll have to agree with the prices. I get discounts through our local shop because our plant sends our employees to them, but they typically run $250+ for a good pair. I spare no expense on work boots.

I've also heard that the John Deere work boots are durable and comfortable. I've never owned a pair but a old coworker of mine had them, and really liked them.

This same question came up not more than three weeks ago.
So I will stick with my suggestion.

    Matterhorn.

Get them made for underground mining.

I think this topic should be made a sticky. Or another forum created for subjects that come up at least ones every week or two. (Not complaining or whining or anything, just a suggestion.)

    I wear only Red Wings.
I walk a lot and they hold up well.
I have wide feet and I can get boots to fit.
I stopped into the Red Wing store last weekend to get a new pair of boot laces, they are free by the way.[:)]
The store had 2 different style of boots on sale for $49.95. That was $100 off the normal price.
I bought a pair to keep until needed.

I was always a Red Wing fan. Last year while working in Miami my trusty wings blew a hole in the toe area. All I could find quickly was a pair of Wolverines for $140 A little heavier, but alot more comfortable!

Entire work career on Red Wings. Kept trying other brands every other time I needed boots, but they always were worse, and some injured me. Red Wings needed the least breaking-in, and lasted the longest. I always ended up buying Red Wings to get rid of the off brands that I tried.

Mine are a few years old and show hardly any wear at all!

And they are some of the most comfortable boots I have ever worn!
