I don't know how many GB members have been keeping abreast of the news, but Late-Bloomer has recently been faced with a natural disaster. Not only has a major hurricane settled in on Hawaii, but they also had a quake that hit in the mid 4's on the r-scale. keep him in our thoughts and prayers. 0 -
A quake on the worlds tallest/biggest active (or any) volcano?
That doesn't seem likely.
I think you're making it up.

Anybody who'd live next to the seashore, in a river bottom, on a flood plain, on the backside of a big river levee, in Tornado Alley OR on top of AN ACTIVE VOLCANO
... well duh!

Zipper, don't you live right next to a major fault line? 0 -

tsr1965,
Thank you for your prayers...
Hurricane Flossie is headed right for the Big Island of Hawaii its moving slowly toward the islands.
And yes, you heard right...The Big Island did suffer a 5.3 earthquake this morning with small numerous aftershocks. Every one on the island is prepared and everyone is cooperating many have moved to local shelters.
The good news as of 4pm Hawaii time, it seems like the hurricane may be breaking up somewhat from a strong sheer that has opposed it. Local forecasters say if that continues the hurricane should be downgraded to a tropical storm, nonetheless heavy rainfall is expected but somewhat less violent winds.
We still know anything can happen so your prayers are greatly appreciated in this time of need.
For your information I am currently at my home residence on the nearby island of Oahu. Although I'm not on the Big Island we will definitely feel the effects with up-graded winds and rain no matter what.
The only problem is that many hurricanes in the Pacific take this route but in my opinion it seems that the ones that come from the southeast and come up close to this southern most island of the Hawaiian Island Chain have a tendency and a greater chance to move up North-West once it passes them and onto the other islands as well....
These types of paths that other hurricanes have taken in the past wreek the most havoc to our islands...
Your prayers mean alot to us here for a safe evening and tomorrow, still anything may happen...
You are a awesome kind-hearted gentleman and thank you for thinking of me and my family and all in State...
Aloha,

5.3? I fart bigger than that. Seriously, we had a 5.4 7 miles from here a couple of years ago. Woke me up. I thought someone drove their car into the house. Dad's field made the paper. It was supposedly the epicenter. He lives 1 mile form it and slept through it.
Good luck with the hurricane.0 -
Thanks, no matter what we'll get through it together...
In Hawaii everyone takes care of each other all year-round with Aloha, not just when a crisis arises...[:D]0 -
A 5.4??? We don't even wake up for any thing that small......
Bloomer, good luck with the hurricane, make shure you batten down the hatches and you'll all be fine.
I have a Aunt that lives in Helo, where abouts are you at?0 -

Well, if the Yellowstone Supervolcano erupts any time in our lifetimes, we're all screwed. Especially you crazies who live in the Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, and Montana area. 0 -

Aloha,
I am on Oahu right now, we left the Big Island several days ago...
But the Hurricane is still headed down South Point way...Reports are saying Hilo and all that area preparing for a 10" of rain...
Surfs up so alot of guyz are still out there...20 footers this evening, its been downgraded to a Category 2 right now and so things are looking better by the moment....
Everybody is doing great right now...we're just taking it easy and watching what this storm is going to do...0
