WOW that is unheard of, wonder where she is going to get the funding for that, the district here clams to not have funds for even paper says it all goes to building maintence and teachers salaries.

    BS, I say

My wife is a teach and I spend alot of money every yr. buying school supplies for the school. I don't have any kids (yet)

Don't see much of that anymore. We always end up with dang near a truckload of supplies. Our taxes that pay for the schools keep going up and we have to supply more and more of what the schools used to provide (with our tax dollars). I think a staples card or donation would be appropriate and well recieved.

I'm guessing it's coming from the teacher's salary, as said so.
Still, I can afford supplies. I know there are kids who's parents can't, or don't supply them, for whatever reason.

I would also give that kind of teacher some money for supplies.
I could support those kind of teachers.

Wow, that's great. I think it would be great of you to make a small donation.

I don't believe I'd go with a Staples card, though. They seem to be overpriced on just about everything, unless it's "on sale".

Amazing on several levels. You actually walked to the classroom and talked to the teacher? At my kids school you have to email back and forth to set up a appointment and they act like they are doing you a favor to give you weeks in advance. Then you have to go to the office when you get to the school and give them your drivers license so they swipe it in some machine that prints you out a little sticker with your picture and name, and I think the machine does a quick background check for sexual offenses (not sure but I saw on the news they were getting the machines to do this now, and I'm not joking).

They always send up a long expensive list of school supplies. The first day we arrive with the supplies just to watch them dump them in a big box for everyone to use so we can support the lazy meanies that "can't afford" to buy their kids thier supplies. Then we litterally get solicitated more then once a week to buy this or that because the kids don't have anything to play with or can't do this project or that project supposedly because the schools can't afford it. Meanwhile I'm paying more then $5,000 a year in property taxes just to let a liberal ass teacher teach my kids about the poor poor people that can't support themselves and that they should feel guilty and give them money. So I get to unteach them all those pathetic values and reteach my kids self reliance and how to depend on themselves for their next meal, job, ect.

Ya bleen the education system it really disgusts me.[xx(][xx(][:(!]

P.S. Could you tell this is something that ticks me off alot? [:(!]

    Ya think?[;)]
I worked in the school system.
Still, a teacher stepped up to the plate and called it for what it is.

...I dont find that too out of the ordinary for the teachers I personally know/known, at all. Each and everyone plan on a $1,000 plus for supplies for their students each year...and they always end up spending more.

...Then there are the students that are the truly needy ones, thats where most of the "plus" comes in. I give most teachers a LOT of credit, hard job....and the bone head adminstrators, absurd regulations, laws usually make their hard job even harder.

...The ones I know teach for all the right reasons, they truly enjoy teaching and want to see the kids have a shot at a good education, they sure as hell aren't doing it because it's easy are for the money.

...A teacher needs to be thanked for any level of education one has...[;)]

Still, Kodiak, you have to appreciate the fact that school prep or not is NOT the kid's fault, poverty or parentage notwithstanding, either.
No kid deserves suffering degradation due to their parent's ignornance or inconsideration.

Very true. That is why I don't put down children only able bodied adults that should be responsible for their lives and not leeching off you and me.

I truly beleive a person that is on goverment assistance if she gets pregnant should be given a choice of either tubes tied or get off goverment assistance. That would cover the good women that lose their husbands to unfortunate circumstances. Then women couldn't up their paychecks from the goverment by having more children that you and I have to support.

I also beleive to get goverment assistance the people should be drug tested and cut off if they come up dirty. It makes no sense at all that I have to pee in a cup to get a job and support myself, and Shanikwa can be a crackhead and get cash for being a lazy crackhead.

Sorry I'm a bit frustated right now with taxes due to the goverment appraising my house for so much when the market is in a slump. Just another way for them to screw me out of more of my hard earned money. I have a hearing about it the 17th. Wish me luck.

School district here gave my Wife and every Teacher $275 bucks to buy their supplies. Children did get a letter to bring theirs also. Some of course can't and won't . She has 12 students in her 4th grade class. Starting Teachers I believe make somewhere around 25K a year for 9 months. She has 16 or 17 years Teaching numberous degrees with national board certification still working ( about 6-9 more months ) on her Phd doctorate making right now..are you ready.... I can't believe it... $71K for 9 months work plus any extra consultation money she does for the District.

The school my kids go to is a pretty large school....but out in the country where the norm is a lower level income. I don't know how many don't provide what the school supply list requires.....but I do know the lists I have gotten seem to be trying to make up for the students who aren't going to send the supplies. Years ago my oldest would have a list that looked more like what you would expect....but now, my younger two seem to be ready for 4 yrs of school each yr. TEN folders....what 10 yr old uses TEN folders during one school year?

I am happy to see there are still teachers who don't seem like this is their own little Christmas.....my oldest just gave me a list she has to have for Spanish class....supplies....for Spanish class!!! All I can say is Ole'!!!

I would like to say.....I appreciate teachers and understand that the whold system is messed up. I just wish I could give a "donation" and let them get whatever they needed for the classroom and hand out the childrens needed supplies as a whole. These lists have gotten a bit rediculous...but I understand it is pretty much the only way to deal with this issue.

Spanish class supply list.....1 english-spanish dictionary, mechanical pencil, 5 dividers, 3 folders, 2 dry erase markers, 2 packs white copy paper, 1 three subject notebook.

I knew a man who was Principal of 2 small schools at the same time for the salary of one back in the 60's. Claude Cord was a truly great educator. He always summered in Canada and brought back tons of fish and invited the whole community to a fish fry. After he retired he wintered in Florida but he still had the fall fish fry in Indiana.

I would like to say Rest In Peace but it would be great if he was reincarnated - hm, maybe he was in this teacher Andrea posted about....

Yes I have. Solid logic there.........right? I wouldn't mind if the teachers would just keep their opinion to themselves on various things and instead teach my children what they are actually in school to learn, you know math, science, ect.

You need to hold up a minute on your thinking. Teachers are TOLD what they are going to teach.. how long and what subjects to the children. If you have a problem with that go to a school board meeting and discuss the curriculum with them. Teachers have a job to do and do it to the best of their abilities.

I will say, the state does require them to teach certain things.

My aunt is a teacher for a richer school district, and boy oh boy, does she get ticked at it sometimes. But, someones gotta do it!

They are told to teach personal views? You need to hold up a minute. My sister which lives a quarter mile from me gives me the inside track on what they are told to teach and what they aren't told to teach.

This was purely her personal opinion. To be honest it didn't bother me much. It gives my daughters different views and opinions of people, however being her parent I'll try and infuse my morals and beleifs in them.
