Down the centuries, bald men have resorted to a range of desperate measures to restore their lost hair. Today, however, the first real hope of effective treatments is reported by an American team arising from research that could also lead to scar free surgery.
Evidence shows mice can regenerate hair follicles
The scientists made the advance after identifying a mechanism that relies on reawakening dormant genes. A US company, Follica Inc, has now licensed the technology in the hope of developing new treatments for baldness.
While adult mammals can repair injuries to themselves, they lack the ability to rebuild lost parts of their bodies - unlike newts and salamanders which can sprout limbs. Experts previously thought it was equally impossible for adult skin to regenerate hair follicles.
Now it seems adult mice can indeed regenerate hair follicles, according to a study published today by Dr George Cotsarelis of University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, Philadelphia, and colleagues in the journal Nature

#1 son is 35 and he's pretty much bald, most of the the men on his mothers side are bald. He says God didn't give everyone a perfect head, so He covered the rest with hair. There's no shortage of hair on the rest of him, his freinds call him the Gorilla.[:D] 0 -

Not in my family.
The men in my family who are losing or have lost hair simply don't see it as a disability. Of course, I still have a full head of hair, so, you know, it's easy for me.0 -

it's commonly known the hair follicles get digested into the male colon, so by rubbing your own feces on the hair line it replaces the digested follicles[:o)] hey someone would believe it0 -
Big deal. Scientist can cure any kind of cancer in mice, but humans are a different creature. Mice are small potatoes compared to people. 0 -
