Teenage Sex?
Reality is that most people start having sex in their teens. All the handwringing and praying in the world will not stop that.
How many actually have sat down with their kids and explained the biological mechnanisms and ramifications that take place? At what age? How many stick their head in the sand and let their kids learn on the street?
Teaching kids about condoms is like teaching a kid to use a fire extinguiser. You are not condoning starting a fire, but at least the kid knows how to put one out.[;)]

300 - It's obvious that you are a youngster who resents your parents involvement in your life. It is the responsibility of parents to "force" their thoughts upon their Kids.
When/if you ever have kids, you will see the error of what you have said.

Mosts of the posts here have talked about the mechanisms and consequenses of teenage sex, and only a couple have even touched on Morality.
I wonder why that is??
My view is that the Moral aspects are/should be the primary limiters of teenage sexuality.

You can NOT tell teenagers anything, they already know every thing( I raised 2 daughters, so I know what I'm talking about) also I HATE teenagers, will not even talk to them. THEY can have you arrested and put in Jail and then admit they lied and you are still in jail. 0 -

Why Doug? It is a very basic biological function, with some very basic biological consequences, but why should it be burdened with so much more moral import than micturation or any other basic biological function?

Yoy do it the same way your parents did, which was how theirs did and so forth for as long back as history exsits. This will have the same results as it always has had which is Very Little. History tells us that premarital sex has always been here. Premarital sex is part of being human and always will for as long as we remain human. The christians of america (especially the catholics) try to make it clear to their kids that they will "burn in hell" if they commit fornication... be it as a minor or adult. I've heard some go so far as to say sex, even after marriage, is only acceptable if being practiced for the purposes of procreation.

That is very true. There are a LOT of very uptight "religious" people that don't know hardly anything about sex other than the missionary position in the dark a few times a month to try to get pregnant. There is one preacher that is making BIG en roads into this problem. He is going around to congregations all over the country to teach ADULTS about sex. Now, how are these ADULTS going to teach their kids about sex, when they themselves hardly know anything about it? This preacher has been on the talk shows a lot and has read many of the questions about sex he has been asked, it is amazing how ADULTS can know so little about sex. And telling people that sex is just for marriage is so unrealistic. I would be very willing to bet there is a very small majority of the people on here that were virgins when they got married, unless they got married very young. My wife and I were both 28 when we got married. How many people are virgins at 28? About 0%. And frankly if she had been, I would have really wondered if she was normal.0 -
All 3 older kids had "the talk" when they turned 13 ...

I didn't come here to discuss bibical fatanitcism... And so many people wonder why america is in the middle of a crisis. It's not the religion that's the problem... it's the people who choose to believe in it.
Otherwise the "religion" would be nothing more than a bunch of old dusty books, abandoned churches, and little brass crosses attached to jewelry chains, sitting in land fills... I have 4 boys,,never needed to have THE TALK we were open with them their entire lives about sex, stds,babies and just girls in general,,unless you do not own a TV you better be pretty open because with all the commercials on the telly today you are already behind what they know,,,never had a problem,,
Lets be honest about it,,the moral group in talking not until marriage,,how old were you when you started,,I will be 46 next week,,I was 13 when I got my first little taste of love,,by the time I was 15 I was having full blown sex almost every weekend,,and guess what guys I was not having it by myself and not always with the same girl,,you know how teen boys are,I kept count and by the time I finnished high school I had been with 16 different females so I know there were alot of girls having sex also.Things are alot faster now than they were then,,I have caught a girl climbing into one of my sons window at night so sticking your head in the sand will not stop them,,,I dont think sex ed started it either,,I think it stops alot of babies,,if you want to find the real reason of kids having more sex you better look at the period of free love in the late 60's and early 70's and all the things they see in the movies and on the boob tube0 -
I'm 35, and the boy is now 6. I hope its a while before the sex talk has to come about. I do believe I'd rather he know that while I prefer he wait until marriage, if he does it before, use a rubber. I'd like to think that he will wait untill marriage, but reality, I didn't, how can I expect him to. 0 -
By the early '70s, most mothers had joined the work force providing safe unsupervised places for kids to relax at their homes with friends. Kids also had money enough for cars, giving them unsupervised mobility.
Prior to that, single parent households were rare, mothers were home, hotels needed to see a ring and baggage and an available empty apartment was hard to come by. While desire may have been there, opportunity and privacy wasn't. Many girls weren't secure in a back seat or on a blanket in the woods or under a boardwalk. Fear of pregnancy was great; Greater than censure by the Catholic Church
which required two or three "Our Father's" and "Hail Mary's" after a forbidden act.
Availability of the pill and legal abortions took away fear of pregnancy and forced marriages.
It also became acceptable to get pregnant without a husband and to live with a boyfriend.
With the three components of desire, opportunity and lack of fear & stigmatization, rampant sexuality was inevitable.
Were sex easily controllable, I'd venture that most of us wouldn't be here now.
The Genie is out of the bottle and there's little you can do with it.
I view it as being up to strength of character whether we can pass the hurdles of life or be stopped by them.
Two women I knew succeeded after early sexual activity. One was involved with my brother at fourteen, later became a doctor. Another, who had a child at fifteen, took her Masters, became a teacher and lived the good life in California.0 -
Mine are 8 & 5; girl and boy respectively. We 'allowed' the girl to follow closely the birth of her brother and the subsequent nightime feedings, diaper changes, crying, etc. Yep, she's scarred for life. When she finds out PRECISELY, how the baby gets there in the first place, I expect she'll run screaming to the nearest convent. As for the boy I plan to introduce him to some folks who gave up their youth by having kids in high school.
Someone earlier said that this society shows children as a chore, rather than a blessing. Sure they're a blessing and I would step in front of a speeding locomotive to keep mine from harm. The reality, though, is too many people gloss over the amount of effort required to PROPERLY raise a child. That's the story I will tell, when the time comes.0 -

While I do not have any children, but hope for some, I think there is no blanket advice. Each person needs to be treated like an individual. Try your best to teach them right and wrong, morals, and values. Hopefully they will adopt what they have been taught. If the child is the kind to do the opposite of your wishes, then adapt your approach. Yes, I concede, some children might need that bag of condoms given to them, but that is approaching the final options.
There is not one option for all, but what do I know. I'm still classified as ignorant. I'll let you know when I actually have kids.0 -
While the eating buggers part may be a lie as far as most boys are concerned, the reality is that most boys think only of sex. I understand that my stance may be considered sexest, but I'm damned glad that my off spring is male, rather than female. Sit down with them and explain the different types of diseases...The Clap, etc. Show them graphic pictures of the disease. Then tell them the facts behind them. Symptoms, treatments(especially the clap), some don't go away, ever.
THEN, show them the facts on how many new cases are reported every year, and how many people actually have said disease. They'll keep their zippers closed, that's for sure.
