STARTING A BIT YOUNG?

ACWORTH, Ga. - Three boys, ages 8 and 9, were being held Monday in a detention center on charges of kidnapping and raping an 11-year-old girl near a suburban apartment complex, officials said.
The alleged attack happened Thursday and the girl's mother reported it to authorities Sunday, Acworth police Capt. Wayne Dennard said.
"The victim said they were playing outdoors and the girl was forced into a wooded area where she was sexually assaulted, where one of the boys raped her," Dennard told The Associated Press.
The three boys - an 8-year-old and two 9-year-olds - were charged with rape, kidnapping, false imprisonment and sexual assault, Dennard said. They were due in juvenile court Monday afternoon. Their names were being withheld because of their age.
Dennard would not comment further.
Acworth Police Chief Mike Wilkie said said one of the boys was accused of threatening to hit the girl with a rock before the alleged assault. Wilkie also said the investigation is "far from over," and investigators are looking into claims that after the alleged attack, the girl talked about it with her friends at a slumber party.
The father of the 8-year-old boy said his son had been falsely accused and had not had sex with the girl.
The sexual activity was consensual, and the girl accused her playmates only after her parents had learned she had sex, said the father, Brandon LeBlanc.
"There was no violence involved," LeBlanc said. "This is a clear case of a girl who didn't want to get in trouble with her parents."
He added, "In order to save her hide, she tried to blame it on rape."
The girl's mother, however, told WGCL-TV in Atlanta, "They do need to be taught a lesson because if they do it to her, they could do it to somebody else. And who knows when they become teenagers what they can do to other girls."
The case involves children from a working class apartment complex on the northern outskirts of metro Atlanta.
LeBlanc said the kids all played together, biking or throwing a ball around in the apartment complex's parking lot. He said his son is a third grader at a Baptist school who loves the Atlanta Falcons and is a batboy for his church's softball league.
Prosecutors had not received the case report from police on Monday, nor had they decided whether to try the suspects as adults.
"That decision hasn't been made," said Kathy Watkins, a spokeswoman for the Cobb County District Attorney's office. She had no further comment.
Acworth, 30 miles northwest of Atlanta along the shores of Lake Allatoona, is a town of about 17,000. Acworth police said their department has never before investigated allegations of rape where all the parties were this young.
"This wouldn't be normal anywhere, but especially not Acworth," Dennard said.

I highly doubt any of this is true, given the track record of such incidents. As kids, I am sure a lot here have played "doctor" or something like that, and I bet that it would be classified as "rape, kidnapping, false imprisonment and sexual assault". 0 -
Sexual witch hunt mentality.
Let's label them all sex offenders.
Jeez...0 -
I was about that age when was talking to a girl (about the same age) on the street in front of the house, when she reached out and sliced my arm with one of those toy metal "crickets" that were popular at the time, and took off down the steet hollering "RAPE RAPE" at the top of her lungs.
Nothing came of it, and at that time, i didn't even know what rape was. I suspect that she'd heard of it somewhere, or had been recently cautioned of it...(?)0 -
If tried as adults, and convicted.Would these 3 boys (1.8yo 2.9yo.)be sent to a prison, filled to overflowing,with "hard-core" FELONS??[V] 0 -
It's a good thing (I guess) that didn't happen in Texas. Here, a child under 10 years of age has NO culpability for acts that would prosecutable as a criminal offense if committed by a person at least 10 years of age. It is something that needs to be changed, obviously. 0 -
IF this is true,......WTH is going on with kids today?
I became sexually active fairly young for the time, and spent many years pursuing nothing but that.
At that age though, I had no thoughts whatsoever about sex, or girls.
All I wanted to do was get home and play outside, whether it was football, baseball,.......or even street games in the neighborhood.
Had to be threatened to come in at times.
Some of this stuff, I just can't fathom,........must be entering "old fartdom".[xx(][;)]0 -

Are you implying that the story is true and these children ought to be prosecuted as adults?0 -

Not at all. Children 10 through 14 cannot be prosecuted as adults, no matter what they do. The problem is, that children under 10 can't be prosecuted even as juveniles, no matter what they do.0 -

PARENTS.0 -
Parents should be investigated/charged/jailed. Where were they when this was going on? What is going on in the home/s that would give impressionable young minds the idea to try something like this, consesual or no?
I'm no fan of govt intrusion into your family life/parenting practices, but when something this egregious pops up, you have to ask questions and investigate, especially given the ages of all involved.
Marc1301, you ain't alone in the boat there, brother! At eight, I still thought girls were "icky" cause they couldn't bait a fish hook!0 -

Figure it out after a 9 year old shoots a member of your family.[xx(]
I hope you are joking.0 -

We thought we would get cooties being around girls at that age![:D]0 -
Its ironic that the only time children are treated as adults is when they do something horrific. 0 -
There is a family right now,.....I believe in Orlando, where the parents are being charged with "child abandonment" by the authorities.
The 13 year old "child" has threatened to kill both of his parents, and even put a knife to the back of the mother, and said something like, "I'm gonna kill you someday".
The father even put an alarm on his door, so he would know when the kid got up at night.
That is BS,......once again assuming it to be the truth.
It has been on FOX, if that means anything.
I would have done exactly what the father did, and turned him over to child services.
I am not living in MY home with a psycho kid that threatens to kill me and my wife, and continue to provide for him.
There are bad seeds in this world, and these folks did NOT appear to be kooks.
The pic of the kid looked like there was something wrong with him mentally IMHO. That doesn't change the concern though.
It is becoming a truly sad world![xx(]0 -
If it's determined that a sex act actually occurred between any of them-consensual or otherwise-it raises several red flags.
Something bad has been going on in order for an 8 or 9 year old to be knowledgeable enough about this subject to commit the act. Playing
doctor and engaging in intercourse are totally different animals.0 -

That question is either not serious, or not well thought out. Think about what can happen.0 -
this case sounds like your typical "girl has sex, brags about it, people talk, girl then claims rape" 0 -
I don't think anybody I knew when I was that young would have dared to do something like that. good gawd I sure wouldn't have. I don't understand how those kids could be so ...? there must be something really wrong with how they're being brought up. they need a good whipping to set them straight. 0 -

Can't "whip" them anymore!
They are taught in school to call the police if that happens.0 -

I know. but something needs to be done to them so they know that
a) they won't get away with it,
b) what they did was not right, and
c) they sure as hell don't want the consequences again.
otherwise,
a) they'll think they can get away with it again
b) they don't see how they're in the wrong
c) they aren't afraid of the consequences.
I think what they did was pretty drastic. I think a severe punishment is necessary, something they won't forget.0 -

What exactly can happen?they get worse! how bad do you think they'll be later on, if they're doing that now??0 -

Just a reminder to ya'll "let's hang'em now" crowd.
I believe in finding the truth, but you seem to think if a 9 year old kills someone, and it HAS happened, that there should be NO penalty.
How long do you believe it will take for that info to get out to the defective minded "kids", that are violent, that they have absolutely nothing to fear?
Lets say you were married, and a 9 year old shot, and killed your wife, or your child in school?
Do you believe that "nothing" should be done?
You will live with that kid walking away totally free?
An 8 or 9 year old knows the difference between right, and wrong.
If they don't, because of neglectful parenting,..........who needs to pay that price?
I sure as heck don't believe it should be law-abiding citizens, through mortality!
I would put a bullet through a 9 year olds head, just as quickly as a 45 year old, if the circumstances dictated the need.0 -
Until we know more details, I'm sticking with my first thought: I don't think it happened the way the girl's mother reported it. 0 -

Not all, Marc, that's what you believe I believe. Neither did I say anything like that nor were we talking about murder. We're right now talking about 3 second graders being picked up on alleged kidnapping and raping charges, which already have been processed by some as a fact.

IMO, that's a little too far off. A child is a child, his/her legal guardian(s) is/are the only person(s) responsible for that child's action. If an 8 year old shoots someone with intention to kill -- it is the parent responsible.0 -

I was responding from Nunns statement about law in Texas.
IF a 9 year old had a loaded gun pointed at you, or a member of your family......hammer cocked, and finger on the trigger,.........you are also armed, and drawn,.......what would you do.
You can't shoot the parent in my example!
I guess you would sacrifice your life, or your family member.
Good for you,.......I would not.
Fortunately, it does not happen that way too often,......yet.
BTW, I agree that the "crime" mentioned, may very well not have happened,.......actually I find it hard to believe.
I also hope that I am reading what Nunn said incorrectly.
If it is all about the parent, then you are in a world of trouble if the parent isn't around, when a "lil" gangbanger gets the drop on you.
Obviously you did not get my point, as I was not referring to the "rape" allegations posted above..0 -
