If those are the only choices I would go with the .308.0 -
What ever you decide to use....take your time with a well placed shot. Wounded game is a shame ! I would use nothing smaller than a 243. 0 -
Garand. 30-06 all the way! 0 -

"Damage hunts" are great for filling your freezer! I used this on one last year and harvested three good does. The 7mm-08 is just a sweet cartridge for deer and antelope. [^] The extra barreled action above is in .30-06 and will just about break your wrist. [:(]
Sweet Mother of God, a 30-06 pistol. I did not know that existed. You definitely belong in Montana, not California.
I wouldn't fire that beast if you paid me.0 -
"i have seen deer run that had a broken shoulder."
I'll bet you have. But you haven't seen one run with a broken spine, which is what the high shoulder shot gives you.0 -
waht??
no plasma phase rifle in the 4o watt range?0 -

What state are you doing this. I live in Northern MN and a 223 is not enough as our deer are a lot bigger weight wise than southern state deer.
how far north?0 -
use the vls! 0 -
.243 and up.Dont use the 22 mag or the .223 its just too small. "wounded game is a shame"Also your point of aim is different if the animal is broadside, straight away or quartering.Be safe 0 -

Bagley, about 20 miles west of Bemidji0 -
Dan, believe it or not, it is my heart's desire to move to Bemidji Minnesota.
I was driving across the state, on the way to Ely for a week in the Quetico, and we stopped in Bemidji. That is one beautiful little town. I would like to get some acreage in the country near there, on a lake.
I can't get my girlfriend to leave the south, so I am stuck here.
Do you have a snowmobile? Do you do ice fishing, or cross country skiing?0 -

But not 2 of them. Physically impossible. Spine too if you hit high enough. I go for the center of both shoulders. The bone shards end up in the heart and lungs. Drops them like they were hit by lightning. 20+ years and never had one take another step. Success in all but the last 3 (no time) using 7mm Mag (139gr) .308/30-06 (168's) 12 ga slug, and .50 (350 gr hand cast)black powder0 -

allen - maybe SF is to sore from last night to type?? or maybe he had 1 too many drinks after? [}:)][}:)][:D][:D]0 -
Maybe it wasn't as legal as he thought.
Maybe he is just hungover.0 -
Phased-plasma rifle in the 40-watt range. 0 -
A giant spot light and a knife. 0 -
A big spot light will make a deer stand right where he is ... any old .30-30 or .270 or .30-06 will put him down right where he is. For sure you should use a big enough calibre to make sure you don't have to track them in the dark! 0 -

Looks like a lone eagle to me.
