Just another idiot who doesn't understand that a magnet is of no use when someone tells you to get the lead out.

quote:Local media reports said a magnet was found in his rectum.
"He was secreting these items in a body cavity and that was a great concern because there were also some electric wires associated with that body cavity," Larry Fetters, security director for the Transportation Security Administration at the airport, told reporters.

...and this is unusal because...? Where else do you keep your magnets? Doesn't everybody?[;)]

If they hooked a battery up to the wires, would it make his stick point North?

...or maybe doing a recon run to determine how sensitive those metal detectors really are.

I know that if they aren't properly adjusted you can slip through with a small metal object clamped up in your armpit. It's a long story.

I bet you they wanted to know if these items would set off any alarms. They were setting up an attack.

You do wonder what other parts someone else might have taken aboard so that they could have been assembled later. It's not impossible.

It was a test run for sure, just to see what if anything would happen when he went through with a metal object that size!

Well I guess they just found out how sensitive those airport metal detectors are, they can alert to a magnet planted IN your body !!

Just try to remember not to hold the small parts in your mouth.

San Salvador - An inmate at an El Salvador jail was caught with a hand grenade stuffed up his backside - a novel attempt to disguise his apparent escape plans.

Guards at the San Francisco Gotera prison outside the capital San Salvador found the V40 grenade, about the size of a golf ball, lodged up the man's rectum during a security clampdown, a prison spokesman said on Thursday.

They also caught another 16 inmates who each swallowed a cellphone.

"We'll have to expel the objects and if they won't come out we'll have to perform surgery in hospital," said Alberto Uribe, a spokesman for the El Salvador prison service.Last year, prison guards found an M67 grenade in the vagina of a female visitor at the overcrowded La Esperanza-Mariona prison on the northern fringes of San Salvador.

Prisoners in the Central American country use weapons to try to escape or attack fellow inmates and prison guards, and use cellular phones to order free gang members to commit crimes or smuggle narcotics.

A test run for sure, the magnet simulated the mass of the battery & metallic parts of the detonator. The explosive wouldnt be detectable.
This man needs to be dropped off at altitude.

46270 has eletronics inplated in him, you talk about people
jumping throught the hoops, if it was not for the pain.
they used the metal detector on him, did not wait for an
explaintion of what it was, down on the floor, if you know
anything about him, you know he cant move fast, you dont have
to throw him on the ground, he will get there. he hurt like
hell. after there little exercise in security, he was unable
to go. Its a good thing I had stayed until he got in the air.

Wired Iraqi man triggers scare at L.A. airport
    Tue Mar 6, 2007 6:35pm ET
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - An Iraqi national wearing wires and concealing a magnet inside his rectum triggered a security scare at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday but officials said he posed no apparent threat.

No apparent threat? A guy walking around with a magnet up his butt is an apparent threat in my book.

An M67 fragmentation grenade is not a small object.

That is a common Arab practice. The theory is that the magnet will attract a boyfriend with "wood" made of "steel".

Just those zany, wacky, fun-loving Arabs doing their crazy antics.[:o)]

I have an ICD (Implanted Cardiac Device - defibrillator), and the manufacturer sent me a plastic card looking like a credit card, to instruct security personell that I was not to be magnetically scanned. Neither a walk though unit nor a hand wand. They are to hand search me.

I notify the airline when I book a ticket, notify the check in counter and notify the security people at the check point. So far, I have had no problems getting aboard.

As the others have said, this was a dry run and the guy should be diverted to Guantanemo.

you know how 46270 felt, he never thought about notify the Airlines, but you would have thought they would have let him explain before being thrown to the ground.
