Today is the last chance I have to elk hunt...
with a rifle...going back out in a little bit. This morning I managed to walk right into the middle of an entire herd of elk before I realized they were there...they ended up seeing me first and split. I had shots at 3 cows, but I can only take a bull. I'm hoping to get one this afternoon...we could really use the meat. I hated to miss church this morning, but I only had yesterday and today to hunt with a rifle this year...sure hope I can put that Weatherby SVM to work this evening!

I got into 3 seperate herds today but never did get a shot at a bull...could have shot some cows a hundred times over[:(]...had one about 10 yards from me for 15 minutes.
Unfortunately, this is the second year in a row that the SVM has collected dust! She's had her chance. By next year I should have the barrel broken in on the .300 Win A.I. custom...I think I'm going ot have to court her next year.0 -
Sounds like you were able to spend lots of time in elk country this season. Something to be said for that. 0 -

Definitely...we still have a short range weapon season in Nov and a late archery season in Dec...both are real short, but I still have a chance to fill the freezer.

WARNING!! Elk hunting can be highly habit forming and can lead to severe memory loss. You will eventually forget about deer season, fishing season, bird season and eventually your loved ones! I might only get to hunt for a week or so every year but I scout and plan all year long. I know I have a problem but I'm in too deep...I just can't stop.0 -

Too bad, but I know you enjoyed the outing. When we still lived in CA I'd go up to Idaho to hunt Elk and Mule Deer. I really enjoyed those trips!0 -
Elkoholic...this is getting really bad...I played hookie all afternoon just to slip into the woods and get a few extra hours of elk hunting in. Season actually goes out on Wednesday...but I have to work...or...uhhh...I'm supposed to work.[^] 0 -
