    They could be talking about the 18" barrel M1A Scout or the 16" barrel M1A SOCOM/SOCOM II. I believe both of those, technically classify as carbines, even though they're not actual M-1 Carbines.

    All of my info shows that Springfield is not listed as making original WWII military M1 carbines.

    The US Armory in Springfield Mass never made a NEW carbine...I believe they REBUILT them over the years up to their closure in 1968, but as far as I know you will not find a M1 Carbine reciever or barrel marked Springfield Armory/SA.

    I can't say about the "other" SA commerical outfit, if they made any "M1 Carbines" or not

    it is marked springfield, right infront of the serial number
