Just a warning about CCI .22LR ammo
I use CCI Standard Velocity .22LR ammo for my competition pistol, and just a little warning on it:
CCI puts wax on the tip of the bullets, and it can occasionally cause problems. If you use CCI and want to get rid of the wax, take a soft cloth, fold it a couple times and rub the tip of each round on the cloth. Usually, you'll get one or two 2" lines of wax from each round. Sometimes it's less, sometimes it's more. Sometimes there's literal gobs of wax on the ammo.

I used to spend the extra money and buy the target ammo. It is expensive but worth it. It will tighten up your groups and insure you are more consistant. I think I used the Remington stuff but I have not seen that around in most of the discount stores.
It is not lubed as much either. But to wipe off your ammo is a good idea, it will keep the chamber from loading up with that crap.
A little silicone can make things a slip a little better sometimes also, for the slide instead of stickly lubes. Depends on if you are shooting inside or outside as to your choice of a lite lube.
I would clean my Ruger with a good rust preventive after the match and for storage. Then before a match wipe it down good and use a little good lite silicone lube. This was thirty years ago, I imagine there are some high tech lubes that work better now. Talk to the folks on the line that shoot well they will usually be happy to teach you their methoids. I wanted to add that I love CCI ammo also but it is too hot for target work, IMHO! It has a lot of powder to back up that high performance and that will gum up the works sometimes on a tight target pistol. Most Rugers are not that tight and are not that sensitive to ammo. They also will not shoot like a good high standard. Buy a couple of boxes of target ammo and try them out to see what works best for you.
Shoot up a couple of targets with the regular ammo that you use and to settle down a bit. Then bring out the target ammo and shoot up a couple of targets with the target stuff and see what you think!
I will shoot using a bench rest to dial in the gun and then once its shooting the center out of the black then you have it ready to show well at the matches. Experiment with ammo until you find what the gun loves to gobble up and drill the best holes.0 -

Try some Federal 711's in your Ruger; they're only about $1.25 a box, and my KMKGC678 loves 'em for smallbore silhouette work.
The funny smell is the wierd powder they load into ELEY, RWS, some REM have it too; pop the bullet off and look at some of that stuff!
The only CCIs I shoot go through my Single Six!0 -
I have a bottle of Rem Oil here Ive had for a few yrs that someone gave me. I use Break Free CLP on all of my Rifles and to lube my Handguns. I ran across it a while back and it had turned into a white looking thin on top liquid. Much like when oil mixes with water, I said right then I would never use the stuff not even on my knives. I was actually quite surprised to find it this way, I thought Remington would have higher quality products with their name on it. 0 -
? I never had any problems with it, CCI stingers or rem yellowjackets, both are waxy
and that remington 'thunderbolt', that's got some grease on it, never had problems and I blasted through bricks and bricks of that

I shoot in a 50ft. small bore 4 position rifle league. I'm lucky, my 40X will shoot anything you feed it real well. At 50 feet, I've never seen a difference even between federal lightnings, or Tenex. Dave 0 -

And how many 10 shot groups have you fired, that can be covered by a 30cal bullet? Target shooting and target firearms are a completly different world.0 -

Believe it or not, but he is right. I thought I knew how to shoot, then I started comp shooting in a .22 pistol league....boy, "green" isn't even CLOSE to my abilities.0 -
I guess that is what I ran into. I have some CCI standard velocity ammo that is about 25 years old. I don't think it has this coating. I bought a Thompson Center Classic 22 rifle a couple of years ago. I started out using some of the old stuff that worked fine and was giving 1/2" 50 yd groups. I started trying to use some new CCI ammo and the bullet would only go about half way into the chamber. I guess I need to try cleaning it and try it again. 0 -
