Towing/Recovery Straps
Anyone have some? They're pretty expensive. Where did you get yours? What rating are they and have you used them?
With winter just around the corner and the results of last year's snow is making me think about picking up some recovery straps and equipment.

i use hoisting straps from a crane, rated at 200,000 lbs. if they fray on edges you have to discard them due to osha rules. any operators in your area?[;)] 0 -
Same for me,.........I got some used ones from the crane company I use at work.

You're not supposed to use the straps with hooks for vehicle recovery.0 -
The 8500 lb are tow with hooks, the 16,000 LB are eye to eye.

I have a few a couple of 10k and 20K and a 50k. I wouldn't take any of them over a good chain. I've seen too many straps break, even one that was "unbreakable". It went though a windshield, never hook one up to a winch or sit in a car or truck that's being towed!!!
After you break a few straps get yourself a good 3/8's high grade chain. Also get some short straps 12 inches with the medal D hooks ends. Those are great for almost every hook up. Get a few D rings, couple bags of cat litter/sand and a good shovel too. You can used the litter/sand to put under your tires with the shovel on ice or packed snow.0 -

I may be able to help you out. My dad is a crane operator and from time to time he brings older or extra stuff home from the jobsite. I know for a fact that he has brought some hoisting straps in the past. I will give him a call. I know that the company he works for starting cracking down on what they gave to the workers so it's not a guarentee, but it's worth a shot.

Just keep in mind you have to hook it to something that will hold. Young guy with a couple of little kids got killed a few years ago by a tow strap and part of a bumper that came through his back window. I've seen rear bumpers fold and pull the back of the frame together on more than one pickup. I've used a 60,000# tow rope to pull an over loaded semi up a hill with a straight truck with 10000# over the rear axle. I swear the thing stretched half it's original length before the semi moved an inch. I wasn't worried because I had the truck box and grain between me and the strap. The semi driver had zip. 0 -

Just got off the phone with my dad. He said, "highly unlikely" that he could get any right now. He gonna see what he can do, but that is about all I can tell you. BTW, I just remembered that I still owe you for that Hodgdon Magazine you picked up for me a while back. Shoot me an email with your addy and I will give you some small sample bottles of some alcohol I got from work. I have more then I know what to do with and don't drink a lot of hard liquor anyways(besides an occasional glass of whiskey).
Edit: Barring that I can legally ship it there I guess.

I love the jerk straps the Farmers use, they back up to what is stuck and take off about as fast as they can and the tow strap will jerk them out. Works good on vehicles stuck in the mud or snow[:D][:D][:D][}:)] 0 -

I got mine from Mud & sand back in the 70's.
it is 3 X 40
we had some bright kids back in the 70s, his brother got his truck stuck on the beach, the tide started in, they put one of those snatch straps, he took off, his strap doubled in length, the tide had his brother truck, next thing you know, here is a bumper off of a 70 F-350 flying thru the air, thru his back glass, thru the front glass, with what was left of his brother.
never knew what hit him.0
