PWR reactors are inherantly safe. Some terrorist might get a bomb to go "boom" near the containment building, but that would not seriously compromise reactor safety. Nuclear power is the way to go to stop paying the ragheads for their oil.

[8D]--Yes Old Fool you're right about the actual Reactor CONTAINMENT and VESSEL--

--However there are thousands of linear feet of contained PRIMARY fluid used for a variety of HEAT and steam generation, these are more subject to immediate fluid/radiation leaks-of course no Chernobyl, but still a lot of danger--

--Course I'm comparing my years of Sub reactor experience and maybe the Land reactors have taken more protective measures-I don't know for sure--

I agree that it might be possible for the shock to cause a leak, but it would likely be in the secondary loop. No big deal. Of course I am sure that they would SCRAM the reactor to be on the safe side.

Nuclear power is definately the way to go. My dad worked in Gas Turbine Power plant and there turbines were combined cycle. I think they had 8 HUGE turbines, made by Siemens. He has always been a fan of nuclear power though. He told me one time, when they got a new turbine, they sent some germans with them to help with the install, he told me a story about these guys drinking on the job at lunch from these giant mugs that looked like boots.

[8D]--I agree old fool, lets hope we're right on--

--I would hope that there SCRAM circuits are as fast and redundant as the S5W reactors on the Sturgeon class subs, don't know much about the S6G (LA class) and tridents--

ever since three mile island, nuc power was a black sheep of energy source. I wish they would build more. cheap clean energy. with todays tech., the danger would be nil. no one wants drilling rigs of the coast of florida. thats a bunch of bs, we have oil, gas of florida,in the reserve in alaska. no one wants to have another refinery in their state. But everyone gripes about high gas prices.
if these people dont let up, we will be paying 5.00 a gallon.
