Old Drug, New Twist
Parents should be aware of a new twist added to an old drug. Methamphetamine now has a new appearance with a flavor that may be appealing to young children. The street name for the new drug is "Strawberry Quick." Strawberry flavoring and red coloring are now being added to crystal meth to make the drug more appealing to younger children. The new coloring gives the drug the appearance similar to that of other popular children's candy such as "Pop Rocks" and the strawberry flavoring takes the normally bitter taste out of the drug. Parents should warn their children against accepting candy from strangers and stress to them that strangers can include other children.
Strawberry Quick made its first appearance in Nevada in January 2007. The drug seems to be making its way east as it has been discovered within the last couple of months in Missouri and Arkansas. It is very likely we may be seeing this form of methamphetamine in Indiana by the end of the year or even sooner. As methamphetamine dealers attempt to expand their customer base, the new marketing strategy may focus on younger children.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, methamphetamine is a very addictive Schedule II stimulant drug that can be taken orally, it can be snorted, injected, or smoked. Abusers can become addicted very quickly and need higher doses more often. Even when used in small amounts, methamphetamine can result in increased wakefulness, increased physical activity, decreased appetite, increased respiration, rapid heart rate, irregular heartbeat, increased blood pressure, and hyperthermia. Other effects of methamphetamine abuse may include irritability, anxiety, insomnia, confusion, tremors, convulsions, and cardiovascular collapse and death. Long-term effects may include paranoia, aggressiveness, extreme anorexia, memory loss, visual and auditory hallucinations, delusions, and severe dental problems.
Anyone with information concerning the manufacturing or sales of methamphetamine should contact the Indiana State Police Connersville Post at (800) 437-7159, the Indiana State Police Methamphetamine Tip Line at (800) 453-4756 or their local police or sheriff department. Callers can remain anonymous.

sorry, but that is in fact an old twist. long before meth was popular, there was a drug called mescaline (a hallucinogenic related to peyote). it came in 3 flavors: chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. I don't know what they did to flavor it, but probably chocolate milk flavoring like what they're doing here. no, I didn't try it! 0 -

Being able to afford it is not even a consideration. That's why we have the crime problem that we have. When they need more drugs, they just steal whatever they can to buy more. If we didn't have such a huge drug problem in our country crime would just about cease to exists. Why do most people rob, steal, and murder. It's all about illegal drugs. 0 -
I'm in no way sticking up for meth dealers, but this stawberry flavoring thing being a marketing tool directed toward little kids is just media buzz. It's sort of like them saying a few years ago that flashing your headlights at another car can get you shot as part of a gang initiation. Drama sells and the anti-drug LE units are also pushing this tale because it can lead to possible budget increases.
Meth is either injected, smoked or eaten. Lots of folks are needle shy and many don't like to smoke anything. Those who choose to eat it have used all manner of stuff over the years in attempt to cover it's extremely bitter taste, same as buschmaster said about the mescaline. For example, people mixing meth in a heavily sweetened/creamed cup of coffee or just balling some up in a small piece of tissue paper and eating it like a pill to bypass the taste buds is common.

yup, "trying to hook the little kiddies" is just media hype. how are they supposed to flavor it? cigarette or booze flavor? what "adults only" flavors are there? come on.
crime done by druggies isn't always done to pay for drugs. it's also recreation. if you're into drugs, you're more likely to do crimes for fun & profit. it's a behavioral/lifestyle thing. so yes, get rid of illicit drugs and a lot of crime will go away.
but you can't say "most people rob, steal, and murder" because of drugs. there will always be plenty of desperate, jealous, aggravated or just plain bad people around to do that.0 -

2. Prostitution
3. Get others with money hooked and sell drugs to them. Works just like Amway's sales structure.0 -

I think the Liberals should just outlaw the strawberry flavoring in meth. That should solve the problem RIGHT??? 0
