Birthday present Question?
One of my first cousins boys is having his 12th Birthday party tomorrow. I have a bunch of first cousins with children and the children all call me Uncle______ even though Im really a cousin. I found a ferret that has papers 1 yr gurantee and is almost 3 weeks old. She has been spayed and descented, and the lady at the petshop offered me the giant 4 story cage and all toys,food bowls etc for a very good price. She the ferret is very friendly soft and cuddly. I ask his parents and they said it would be fine for me to buy him the ferret. I ask for your help? Would a ferret make a good pet? What are the do's and dont do's. I really appreciate any and all info you guys can share with me? Thanks!

Although cute for a while, a Ferret will get old in a hurry. [:0] I dont know if a 12 year old wants the responsibility , most have an attention span of 30 seconds.[;)] 0 -
they need alot of attention they are not like a cat. so if you dont think she is going to play with it either get two or dont do it.
Also you have to change their liter almost every day.

Me being 14, My brother just got a mouse for christmas, He loves that lil critter, but now he can jump.. Their ok as long as you get them young, but Ill tell you the same thing classic said, most of us like that stuff for 10 days or so, then its parent responsability.. luckily, i like animals and take care of my bird, 2 dogs, and rabbit..
Their neat lil' things.. but they can get mean in a hurry if their not handled and petted..
f you want to get him that get it, i know hell like it, as i liked all my animals, depends on what kinda personality he has..
its a lot of work, and a 4 story house would be a big deal to clean

Hunting buddy's sons 11th birthday party is tomorrow. I gave him a Ruger Mark 1 .22 pistol before Christmas. Of course he shoots it under Adult supervision. 0 -
I'd say no at 12. In another year or so, he will find something else thats small and furry to play with, and that ferret will be left to the wayside.[}:)][:0][:p][:D]

O.K. ,years ago we bought two (2) of these as pets for our daughters , one didnt make it a year and the other one "shasta" lasted apx. 8 years or so , Not like having a cat ! they really do need lots of attention , I was the only one who would take shasta out (of her cage) to play on a regular basis , like having a pet coon , into everything , a real blast , but when she got tired she would run up to me and bite (gently but firmly) on the hand so I would put her up ? and by the way she never was 'fixed'??? anyhow , I would think of something else as a "gift"........

id shy away from anything live with a life expentency >6mo. kids will loose interest and then its the parents who do the work.
an ex girlfriend(22y/o) has the attention span of a gold fish and recently got a ferret. she loves the dman thing and want to play with it more than it wants to play with her so it could go either way...0 -
