No,........what it means, is until people like us stand up and actually do something,.......nothing will change.
They are doing all they can with the volunteer manpower, and also fighting off lawsuits by the ACLU.
It is a problem that needs to be taken very seriously.

A fence won't work, at least not a fence America is willing to build

We have the technology to seal the border physically, but I'm not comfortable with a high-tech version of the Berlin wall on the southern border.

If we want to stop illegal immigration, we have to eliminate the incentives for them to come.

    1) No welfare or public benefits for illegals
    2) Introduce asset forfeiture for companies caught hiring illegals.
    3) Tough mandatory sentances for producing or using fake identification

I don't think we need a fence. We just need to start enforcing the laws
we already have on the books.

+1000,........if the Govt. would get this, they would leave on their own,.......no cost to us! I have posted the same before,......do you think anyone in the Govt. is willing to enforce what should be enforced, and is already against our laws?
Don't bet your life on it, until ALL of US, and everyone like us, decides to take this seriously,.........the politicos don't,.......they see 12 to 20 million new "voters"[}:)]

Edit: I have no problem with the fence,.......the rest I agree with.

Which is why we need to give politicians a hard time every time we get the chance. Build the fence and continue to complain until we get armed military on the borders, and until we get the laws enforced. To hell with politicians that can't get it.

At least the Minutemen are trying to do something, our Government won't even fund the fence authoried. Chamber of commerce, Catholic charitys,Legue of women voters,Aclu, and whole bunch of well healed Lawers so up to sue and at hearing to stop benefits for the illegals. They have thier hands out for Govenment money and the lawyers are being paid for by big business. Our elected officals are following the dollars and to hell with us.

Most Politicans are millionaiers and they leave to lobbiest jobs at a high salary and we Pay for their retirement and health for life.We need to stop the benefits when they get these high payed jobs. Clinton Makes millions of dollars and flys all over the world and we pay for everything, secret Service, and everything else he wants. Let them pay for their retirement out of Social Security and Medicare like we have to.

Do some research on this: many of the folks actually down at the border are against a fence.

    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/05/01/national/main2751575.shtml

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/4763348.html

    and there are many others

If you can't get the border people themselves to agree to a fence, it will never get done.

Even the supposedly unbiased news media are bowing down to the illegals.

As usual, most of you guys are completely CLUELESS about illegals *and* a border fence.

I own land 11 miles north of the border. I have a dog in this fight.

    A couple of things:

    1. You have NO idea of the terrain out there on the border. Huge canyons, washes, etc make it nearly impossible to build a fence that will last. Most of the border areas are nearly impossible to cross on foot. It is either too steep, too thorny, too dangerous, or all of the above.

    2. As long as people are as poor as they are in southern Mexico, Central America, etc, YOU WILL NOT KEEP THEM OUT! If we want illegals gone, we need to fix THEIR country. They don't have the guns to do it! If we are doing it in Iraq, why not down there? If these people are desperate enough to DIE to come here, just how bad do you think it is there? Think about it. If we can "fix Iraq" we can certainly spend a WHOLE lot less to fix other countries too. I don't hear too many of you complaining about the $400 BILLION we've wasted over there.

    3. The REAL problem to people who live on the border is NOT "illegals". It is the DRUG SMUGGLERS. They are the REAL danger to the citizens right on the border. Illegals just want to get the hell away from the border. Drug smugglers will kill you for no reason at all. The "coyotes" who smuggle people are dangerous also.

    4. If we *really* get rid of the illegals, you'd better find a huge amount of cheap labor fast, or else our construction, farming, and service industries will collapse. This is reality. You may not like it, but thats how it is.

I'm not saying we open the border to them, not at all. We just need to deal with what REALITY is......something most of you have no clue about when it comes to illegals and border fences.

    LANDMINES.

+ several thousand. Build a huge land mine field that's at least a mile wide, and then just sit out there on the edge of it at night with night vision devices and take bets on how many are going to go off that night. Use a helicopter crew to put new mines in place.

So totally wrong. A fence is only a fence when it is secure.

Anything less is only a waste of time and money.

All I see with the cheap labor of the illegals is that they are treated like slaves so people can make money off them. I don't think products sold by the employers are cheaper just more money in their pocket. Jail the employers and if a farmer gets subsidies and uses illegal labor it should be taken away, were paying for the farmers cheap labor with government aid and high prices for the farmer.Your not the only dog in this fight we all are, with your thinking it would be cheaper to send the military down south and take over. The wealth is controlled by a few and they think less of their people and could care less. As bad as it is there the rest of the world suffers more than they do and we can't be home for the worlds poor. Only 5 billion that would love to call this home enough is enough.Close the border, build the fence, get the Gov off their butts and enforce our laws just do something. It could be stopped tomorrow if the gov wanted it.[:(!][V][:(][xx(] Who did these jobs before the illegals we did at a rate we could live by.

IF you are silly enough to expect the fence to be built ... do yourself
a favor ... seek psychological help NOW!

... or, ask The Tooth Fairy what she thinks about it, next time you see her!

They may be goint to the bank but what about you, crying in your beer when you lose your job to one. Think about your kids and grandkids working for peanuts when the illegals take over. Your life live it the way you see fit.

Since the passage of the "free trade" laws many years ago we have seen company after company shutting down operations and moving manufacturing down across the border into Mexico. Half the cars in this counrty are assembled in Mexico or have part mfg in Mexico. The mfg wage base in this country has dropped quite a bit as a result of this transfer of jobs south of the border.

You would think that the new jobs being created south of the border would keep the Mexicans in their own country.

I think they seek a more free and open society. They get a free lunch up here and the word is spreading fast. Their standard of living is higher up here if they don't work than it is in their own country if they do work.

The wall needs to be built, with military backup if need be. Jobs in this country for illegials need to dry up and become illegial. Federal laws need to be enforced!

Maybe you misread my post, so I'll try again.

I, in no way condone, nor support this invasion. I know it will
greatly change this country in almost every way..and not for the best.

Building a fence is merely psychological sauve rubbed on to our bumpy backsides by political leaders intent on convincing the lemming voter they are men of action, thus reassuring re-election and promulgation of their species.
