Paul Tibbets
I just got a message that Col Paul Tibbets died...... can anyone confirm this?
For anyone who does not know the name... He piloted the Enola Gay and ended WWII by dropping the big bomb on Hiroshima.
I had the honor of meeting him briefly years ago at the SOF banquet in Las Vegas. A very charming man and a true American hero.

Yes, he is dead.
Believe he was 92.

Japan was arming every citizen, including women, and children, for an impending invasion of the mainland.
We would have still won ultimately,.........but the cost would have been "extreme".0 -

My father was stationed in India with the Army Air Corps in 1945, he would have been involved in the Japan invasion.

When I met him we asked him why the second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki days later.
He said that after the first bomb, Japan would not admit or acknowledge it even happened, probably thinking we only had one bomb.
After bomb #2 they realized they were doomed and realized that Pearl Harbor was one Hell of a Mistake..0 -

He is a big reason why I'm here today. My father and other soldiers on the islands were about to go to Japan for the big invasion. Remember, if there wasn't a Pearl Harbor, there wouldn't have been a Hiroshima ! 0 -

Damn,it saddens me to hear we are losing our heroes one by one.
The Japs aren't admitting to this day that the bomb did it.

involved had the bombs not been dropped.
The Ist Marine Div. was wiped out on that island because Marine brass wanted it to be a Marine victory. The Army went in after them to finish it.It was a military disaster if there ever was one.

It's sad we're losing all the hero's, I had heard recently that 1500 WWII veterans are dying everyday! That number seems crazy! You have to figure, they are all in their 80's and 90's!

Having the experience of living in Japan and coming to know the people, whom I respect and amire in their selfless culture and beauty, I wholeheartedly agree dropping the bombs was the correct thing to do.
Tibbet's action not only saved a million American lives, it also saved several million Japanese lives.
