keep the box ?

I have an offer, sight unseen, of $50 on the box for the Super Blackhawk I recently purchased.

I really can't see having the box adding $50 to the value of the gun or would it?

  I keep all the boxes that my owner manuals come in. Of course, I have no need for the guns that come in the boxes, because guns are evil and spray bullets everywhere, even when unloaded and left alone on a counter or even inside a safe.
  
  I figure that the original boxes add some value. However, the Super Blackhawk, even the old model, is fairly common and I can't imagine that the boxes add much value.
  
  FWIW, I have seen boxes for the Super Blackhawk sold on Fleabay, and they do not fetch anything close to $50.

  If its an old model Super Blackhawk box in excellent condition its worth closer to $75. If the gun is in excellent condition and you arn't going to be carrying and shooting it then you should keep the box; as to a collector the old model Super being in the box will add about $100. to the value, especially if the papers are with it.

  keep the box, while it may not "add" to the price in every situation, it will not deduct from the price you would try to get, if you ever try to sell the gun, and someone then tells you the box is unimportant in your negotiations, that is the time to keep it, and sell it, but it will serve you better with the gun

  I had all my gun boxes boxed up in one large box. Thirty years of gun boxes and my wife tossed them all the last time we moved!!
  I had no idea that they had the kind of value that I now see associalted with a gun sale.[:(]

  I wish somebody had told me forty years ago what boxes would be worth. I think I still have one box. I have always routinely trashed them. Makes me sick.

  Twenty years ago I saw a big "box" of empty S&W and Colt boxes (mint)at a gun show. The guy was selling them for $2 - $10 each. I bought 1. I should have bought 50 . . . .
