Where can I find....(need help)
...a 140-amp output alternator for a 1990 Ford Ranger with a 2.9L V6, 5 speed and 4x4?
Any links would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: I found one. It's chromed, and I don't want chrome in my engine compartment because everything else is filthy.
If you want to help me out now, please look for one that isn't shiny.
Any links would be most appreciated.

Did you try NAPA?
Yes. They didn't have anything.
Don, I already posted pics of what I'm doing. I want to have a heavier alternator to handle 8 150 watt KC Daylighers.0 -

ECC, why do I get a feeling that you think those lights are frivelous?0 -

have had alternators rebuilt to different outputs by a rebuilder who did alternators, generators & starters...check your yellow pages 0 -
Got busted once 4 wheeling around midnight using 4 KC Daylighters. We were driving around my uncle's pasture around midnight and a state boy stops on the highway with his lights on and spotlights us and tells us to come over there. Trys to give me a ticket for "bright and dazzeling lights"... really? I told him to stay on his side of the fence and drove off, laughing. I think he thought we were poaching.
Got Guns?0 -
Do you need one for a Ford or Mazda engine?
With a small 2.9L engine. You may want to start at Ford Racing or where ever they get their crate engines and hack out for a good solid 302 or 351 long block. For a 2.9 spinning a 140A alternator will not cut it.
But if you think you really need a huge alternator. Start with one of these three.
DB Electrical Starter-Alternator
Powermaster Motorsports
Quick Start Automotive Electric
Be better off getting a good Deka 900 to 1200 amp battery and be happy.0 -
Jacob, i found em for a crown vic and a grand marquis. Sorry. 0 -

Do you think it'd hurt it any if I sprayed some rubberized undercoating on it in strategic places to make it look oily/greasy/dirty?0 -

+1
I was looking for a larger one for my Suburban but came up a bit short. I had my stock 140amp rebuilt and it now runs about 225amps. Cost was way cheeper then a new one.0 -
I know where there's a 90 amp, but it's currently being employed, sorta. 0 -
Zulu - Summit and Jegs are your best bets. I believe they both carry Powermaster 140's, I know Summit does for sure. I bought one for my S10 project (chrome though, but a little black spray paint does wonders!). If this is the truck your're putting the SB in, this is the way to go. You can get it in a 1-wire, and eliminate the external voltage regulator B.S. Less clutter in your engine compartment. Summit also carries their name brand H.O. alternators, for a little more than half the price of a Powermaster, and I think they offer it in factory finish. Good luck! 0 -
If you have the know how you can buy the crome one and transfer the inards to the old case and you will have exactly what you are looking for!
They are not that difficult to do. We used to buy brushes for altenators all the time and put them in because that is normally what the problem is if an altenator goes out, so we tore them down and put them back together quite often.0 -

Holman's a little too far for me to go for an alternator. However, I did used to live less than 40 mintues from there.0 -
Try http://www.rockauto.com they pretty much have everything. I checked for your year/application and they have only the 85, which tells me yours was upgraded afterwords. If you know what vehicle it came off of, they are sure to have it. 0 -
Zulu..what ever alternator you end up with keep in mind 140amps is probably not at idle..more like 140amp at 2000+ rpm..at idle will be less amperage. try www.4wheelparts.com one off a v-8 may cross reference over to your v-6..Loko[:D]..also a co. called mean green makes ho alt. 0 -

Jake; If she's that dirty under there alredy, she's prob. slingin enough oil/grease to do the job 4 ya , in a week or so...
If not, the U/coatin won't hurt ,less u get a bunch in the airways/bearings..
