There is a special school for children with needs other than your typical child. Check this out!!!! The child I am sponsoring is my boss' son and he is AWESOME! This is a great place to give to because this school runs totally off of donations.....and the people who work there are volunteers (with medical backgrounds, specializing in these areas.)     reloader....I will take that you have never been around Autistic children or seen the frustration and sadness that the parents have to deal with. The YEARS of work and work and work to try and figure out just what is "different" about your child...to find out it is a condition they really don't understand. This little boy has WONDERFUL parents. They care about him deeply and I appreciate all of the donations to this terrific place full of people devoted to these children.

    Thank you everyone for looking into this and giving to these kids!!! You guys are just the best.

    I've read on here before that children like that are the parents fault, you know, ADD, ADHD etc. and crack, alcohol, meth,etc. is the cause, or the best one of all "Misdiagnosis by a Doctor" Sorry to offend you but I guess I've just joined the crowd in here, you know easy to throw the stone if you don't live in the glass house. I still say it sounds like the kid has Fatal Alcohol Syndrome, but then again I'm no Doctor just act like one.

    Matthew is the first child of two young...very nice people. Both parents are young, from good families and both of his parents are the type of people EVERYONE loves and trusts a great deal. I have been lucky to have Matthew's dad as the new owner of what was my father's gun store.

    You need to stop. You don't know these people and to say the things you are shows you are either a younger person that hasn't a clue or an older person that has grown tired. I will take it that you are young....and don't realize that you are crossing a very bad line. This post is to raise money for a good school that is run by donations and volunteers ALONE....for children who have bigger needs than the average child.

    This post is NOT for someone to post rediculous accusations. No history of Matthew has been given for any such nonsence to be posted such as what you have. Not one thing was said about the parents of this child to make anyone think they have somehow brought this upon themselves. The many doctors and therapists that this child has seen have told this family what they are dealing with.....and autism is not something easily delt with.

    When this family reads this post....and they will....you should be ashamed of yourself for adding to their stress and being so crude by making accusations like you have.

    But on to the topic. I would like to challenge all of the good people of this forum. How about this.

    Count all of the guns that you have in your personal collection and make a 50 cent donation to Matthew for each gun. If you own just a couple even 1.00 will add up if alot of you accept the challenge. If you own 100's of guns then of course you have to donate more. You have to be honest on your count. (Only you will really know) If you do when you donate it will ask you for a name to put on the donor list. Let's flood the list with Gunbroker IDs. Example: garanch from gunbroker.

    I really appreciate all of the kindness I see here. School fundraisers are always a hard thing to deal with. My three will have about a dozen different programs that will raise money for our school. We usually have the cookie dough sale, christmas wrapping paper sale, fruit by the case sale.....it is mind numbing how many sales my school has.

    This is a bit different because of the children. This school is a small light at the end of a very frustrating ordeal for these parents. Matthew is doing great and anything I can do to help them I don't mind doing.

    I wouldn't be so aggrivated by a certain post IF what he were saying made any sence at all....also, I just cannot believe a person would post such things about people they don't know at all...especially when it is regarding a child.

    I thank you all very much. I think this will help the school reach their goal set for this fundraiser. If any of you want to contact the school about doing a direct donation I wouldn't mind it at all. I will try to keep everyone posted on how Matthew is doing.

    So what if the problem was one that was caused by a harmful behavior of a parent, rather than a random occurance of genetic seletion? Is the child destined to pay for a parent's actions? To say one would support the treatment of a "no-fault" condition and not support one where blame can be layed on someone is to say you must be a law school graduate, wannabee or some such hipocrate.

    I will never be one to judge a child by looking at the parents...but in this case there is nothing but admirable people in this family. They certainly are a lot better at handling all of this than I would be.

    I have been lucky. No major things such as this have happened with any of my three. When I think of all they will have to deal with and how hard it will be I am very thankful....and a little sad at the same time.


    Mathew is a great little guy. He comes by the store from time to time. He doesn't speak....he likes the spinning chairs (not to sit in, but to push around.) He likes to put everything in his mouth....yuk!!! We all like to see him coming.

    Dont take any notice of morons who think a child being autistic is the fault of the parents.My next door neighber has an autistic child and they dont drink or smoke or party.My son in England has never drunk,plays rugby at a very high standard and lifts weights competively and his son is autistic.Some people are morons when it comes to this sort of thing.Havnt got much at the moment but have some checks coming in next week so will sort something out to send for a good cause.

    LF If you look at my above posts closely you will understand it is pure satire. There are people on here who have blamed parents for ALL kinds of conditions kids have been diagnosed with, that have absolutely nothing to do with the parents. I wish I could find the thread about ADHD/ADD. That one is a classic on what I am talking about. Sorry to have offended, but as I stated above It does seem easy for people to throw the stone when they don't live in the glass house.... And as you can see I made a donation......... Hopefully the ones, who know who they are, on here will be a little more sensitive to a childs conditions whether they know them or not. Seems its much easier for some, here when its not too close to home.

    My wife is a teacher that works with kids that have mild autism. I think the stats now, are that 1 in every 200 kids born have some form of it. In most cases it isn't diagnosed right away, and usually shows up after vaccinations. The ones who put that connection together quickly get slapped down for suggesting it.

    The store is funny. It was my father's and before he retired I pretty much WAS the store for the last two years he owned it. I was informed he was selling the store to the 25 yr old guy I had hired one year earlier (and his dad who I had never met before.) I took it like you think I would....spastic fit along with weeks of not speaking to him.

    It has all worked out to be the very best situation I could think to be in. I am very happy. My main concern was that I would now be told what to do by someone. (I don't do well changing from in charge to being told what to do.) I tell everyone that "I went with fixtures" when they bought the store. I tell myself "they don't know what they would do without me"....but they would be fine. I order things we need.....just like I always have....rearrange the store from time to time...just like I always have....I rant and throw a fit because nobody cleans a friggin thing EVER....just like I always have.....I buy, sell, trade and trow out chicken eating bloody "handicapped" problems....make people use their cell phones like a phone and not a two-way radio....stop kids from hanging out without an adult with them.....and everyone seems to be happy.

    I think everyone who works, owns or trys to have anything to do with a gun store knows.....you really don't have a store....it has you. I am just there every day. Most people who have been coming in ask me where my father is. They used to ask the same question when he still owned it and I would say "He's taking a day off." I still say the same things...."he was just here"....."we'll see him later, maybe"....and hardly ever tell anyone the whole story. Because usually, when people are asking about my dad I know they are really saying..."hey, I know your father and I've been a customer for a long time so give me a better price." (and I usually do.)

    I generally do not donate to any human based fund (I've given to the SPCA) since I do not think the human race is worth saving, but I've made an exception here. Good luck to him!

    Is it true that autism seems to have a higher occurrence in children where the father is in the IT field?? I was told that a long time ago and wouldn't you know it my two buddies working IT both have kids with Autism.
